How many of you people need CPR & 1st Aid Training?

I am a new Instructor & am looking to take a survey of how many people on average need CPR & 1st Aid Training. For what purpose, too. I am not looking to sign anyone up, but just to post this question and see the result. Thanks!

1. My daughter ran babysitting service usually needed CPR instructors. Also, not a bad idea for teachers.

2. I need it for work in a hospital, but they provide it at work for free.

If you really want to start a company that people need, learn to be an ACLS instructor--that's often hard to find when people need it.

3. I do i work for a court in arizona and they only seem to have 1st aid training only.

4. i work in a group home w/ adults with developmental disabilities and we need it.

5. My work sent me on a CPR and First Aiders course. I have taken those courses 4 or 5 times over the years, all for work.

6. I work in a clinic - we have to update our CPR and 1st aid yearly. I'm also a volunteer paramedic - we have to have so many CE's per year CPR and 1st Aid Training are included (because of changes that may have been made).
So if you got people like me - then you should be in business!!
Also, around here many hospitals and schools hire instructors to teach the general public CPR and 1st aid - you never know when you might use it.

7. I think it would be a great idea to have everyone trained in this. What in the world could it hurt?
As a nurse, I have to do it every year. Baby sitters should know it, police officers, anyone that works with people. General public is included. Like I said, it wouldn't hurt for EVERYONE to be taught at some time or another in their life. This is a life saving skill and we never know when someone near us might benefit from us having and using this skill.

8. I work for a fire department and when i went through fire 1 and 2 we had to take both. They just currently changed the method from 15 and 2 to 30 and 2 for cpr. I have the first aid training but soon i will be taking MFR.

9. I did my senior first aid 6mths ago.. :o)
Has it all changed over there too?~ now there is no e.a.r ~ you just keep going at 30com~2br...?

11. What state are you in...I'm in TX and I'm a Regional Faculty with about 140 CPR/FA Instructors and Training Center Faculty.

My 1st Aid & CPR is current, and have kept it so for about 9 years.

1st Aid is vital in knowing what to do in a emergency in any given situation.

As for CPR I think that it should be made compulsory for the final year in school and any work place that involves, heavy machinery, working with electricity etc.

Most workplaces are now requiring there staff to have some sort of training in 1st Aid, or at a minimum CPR.

13. I needed it for the merchant marines. ( civilion navy ) If youre on a ship in the middle of the ocean, you cant get to a hospital. Everyone on the ship is required to know two things. How to perform CPR and how to fight a fire.

14. I work at a daycare. You don't HAVE to know it to work there. But they offer a CPR and 1st Aid class.

I attended this class about 2 years ago and to be honest i've forgotten most of it.
So i'd need to get an update.

15. CPR & 1st Aid is needed for everyone think that your father is having a heart attack but you can't do anything why because you don't know how.
And you should renew your knowledge every year because councills for resuscitation renews techniques.

The last numbers I have seen is that the American Red Cross certifies about 1% of the population in any form of CPR. The American heart Association probably hits about the same or maybe a bit less. Of course, there are other groups doing it as well. Let's be generous and say that all together, about 2.5-3% is trained.

One of the problems is that not all are current. A pretty small ratio re-certify unless they need it for a job or at-risk family member, etc.

Another problem is that one of the groups that SHOULD know it the most- spouses of at risk adults- tend to be very underserved for several reasons.

I agree that 'everyone should know' this stuff- along with other skills like basic taxes, simple sewing, simple car and home repair, cooking, food and personal sanitation, etc., but realistically, it would be a logistical nightmare in our culture.

19. I did a first aid course years ago but need retraining.I know the basics. My 12 year old daughter learnt first aid through an Australian programme called Vacsswim.Surflife Saving Association do a fantastic job teaching kids not just to learn how to swim but give them knowledge in first aid training.We all need to know how to do first aid.You never know.It should be taught at all schools in the upper senior years.
