What kind of certification do you need to be a teachers aid?

And what are their responsiblities? I have been going to college for almost five years now to be a teacher, but I am getting no where fast because I had to work 40 hours or more a week the first two years. Now they say I have 3 more left. I think it's time for me to reconsider other options. I want to start a family soon. Any advice or infor would be a blessing. Thanks.

1. You usually take a test to be an aid. These are set up by the state and are given at regular intervals.
Some states will allow you to work as an aid and take the test later. You need to check with your State Board of Education to find out the requirements in you state.
If you continue school on a parttime basis they may count your aid job as a field experience and even student teaching.

2. It depends upon your state's requirements. For instance, in my state, you can take a test and become a paraprofessional (teacher's aide). If you have your associate's degree in education, you can also be a teacher's aide. In some places, you need nothing more than an application to get hired. However, states are making it harder to work in a school without getting some sort of degree.
