If you undertake a first aid course during your employment - are you entitled to more money?

1. ya should be but they dont have to and probably wont give you more money. they way a company sees it they paid for you to get the training.

2. Hi,

It will depend entirely on what policy is in place in your organisation there is no legal requirement for you to be paid for being able to do first aid.

What I would say is that if you are happy to be a first aider then you should ask that the additional responsibility be rewarded either by an allowance paid to you whilst you have that responsibility or else an increase in your basic pay.

It is normal practice that if you undertake this you will receive recognition for it in this way.

If for some reason it is part of your job description and you are required to do it then you have less of a chance of getting payment, it's if it is something over and above your standard job that you should be paid.

If they will not agree to pay you then you can always tell them you do not wish to have the responsibility without recognition for it and therefore they should make alternative arrangements to have the legally required number of first aiders.

Hope that helps!
