Am going on a first aid course tommorrow, what to expect ?

I imagine cpr and bandages!!
Thanks poo 4 u, i did wonder whether there would be dissection of any kind. Do you think i should wear the pvc nurses outfit instead of the regular one? I'll only need to wipe it clean afterwards!

Public Comments

1. Lots and lots of blood.

It's a little known fact that they disect orphans and throw the organs around. You, as the trainee then have to run around collecting them and put them back into the right places.

Quickest one to do so wins a ham.

2. Yes. that is about it with a few extra things thrown in, but it is also very interesting and good fun.

3. Depends. A one-day course usually does teach CPR - remember this could save someone's life, so enjoy and value it. Longer courses, especially first aid at work, will include bandaging.

4. Expect to learn CPR using an adult model and an infant model. I also suspect they will be teaching you to use some type of defibrillator.

You will also learn to work with total strangers in the crowd by having someone call 911 to report the incident.

Don't be nervous. Just have some fun.

5. first aid, so you will learn how to stop bleeding and do a simple dressing/ sling, how to check if person breathing/ pulse and how to do CPR, how to put someone in the recovery position and what to use it for, how to minimise risks to yourself , possibly how to call for help, really depends on the level of first aid you are learning , for what reason and how long the course is but these are the basics

6. kissing plastic people with no arms!

7. You will learn how to get plastered.

8. There might be a resuscitation Annie to practice on as well. Good luck.

9. First thing is normally CPR. Then the principles of DR ABC.
That is Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing and Circulation.
You'll also do the basics on cuts, abrasions and fractures. You'll deal with fainting and its causes etc.

The bandages will come in as part of how to support injuries and how to apply pressure pads to cuts. As tourniquets are so no no!

Have fun on the course.
