How old do you have to be to volunteer at the American Red Cross?

I wanna volunteer in San Antonio,
since I'm gonna be having alot of free time.

So how old do i have to be?
And if I ask for AM service, how early will it be?

Thanks to all!
San Antonio, Texas,

1. I dont live in cali but i would think 18

2. Call or go down to the local Red Cross office and ask them. Peace.

3. Ok: according to "American Red Cross Organization has
Membership for Volunteers if 18yrs old and you'd must pass
an written test by knowing about First Aid also yourself can recive a C.P.R card in which helping each 1 Community plus
It is very important of course know that Earth Quake Safety
Awareness does Save lives & they are Cal -Nev -Hawaii Regional offices only !"

4. Age restrictions and schedules depend on the type of volunteer work you want to do with the Red Cross. The American Red Cross of San Antonio does have youth programs, so it looks like they use volunteers who are younger than 18 in addition to adult volunteers.

You could visit the American Red Cross website and do the online Orientation...to give you an overview of the types of volunteer work available. You could also call the San Antonio chapter or visit their website.

5. My daughter and I volunteered helping unload busses from Katrina. We also passed out hot plates, groceries, baby stuff, and helped with first aid and filing missing person reports. She mostly passed out baby stuff and fixed bottles for babies getting off the busses in Memphis after being evacuated while I filed missing person reports and did basic first aid... She was 9 I think.. maybe 10 but there were other children there as well.

Actually the earthquake courses are offered elsewhere. I live in Charleston South Carolina, which also has had earthquakes. I have been trained in their courses here in this state.

ARC offers the courses in CPR/AED and first Aid. They are classroom taught. There are no WRITTEN tests.
After you are taught, you will have to preform in front of an instructor. Your cards will be issued. First aid card is good for 3 years, CPR/AED is 1 year. You can also take the infant/child CPR course as well as pet CPR.

Red Cross now requires all volunteers to have a background check. You will be not allowed to participate until your background check comes back.
