What are some possible emergencies that would require evacuation or sheltering in place? All scenarios welcome

I live in an area that is extremely unlikely to be hit by floods, hurricanes or wildfires. What are some other reasons that would require emergency preparedness or evacuation. Asking because it may influence how I prepare for the "just in case". Looking for the obvious I may have missed as well as more far-fetched-never-thought-of-that before type stuff. Possible events and stuff to stash away is helpful. Also what are some good survivalist/preparedness websites?

Public Comments

1. Investation by people eatimg cockroaches. Same by Africa Killer Bees. Nuclear war

2. It's great to consider possibilities. You can check with your local county Emergency Management about the types of hazards in your local area. I tend to take an 'all hazards' approach; prepare for a minimum of 7 days on your own at home, plan for being away from home, etc.

In addition to Hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes the following could happen in most places:

Tornados and severe Thunderstorms

Winter Storms/extreme cold

House fires

Chemical Hazards: container truck wrecks/spills, train wreck/spills, local industries, accidental chlorine release from pool maintainence, meth labs discovered near your house

Explosions: natural gas leaks, gas stations, local industry, from a neighbor who stashed 'military surplus', meth labs.

Criminal activity in your area: ie, hostage situations

Epidemics-possibility of shelter in place

Wide-spread power outage

Water main breaks

3. chemical spills, tornado, straight line winds
