why is it important to have an emergency preparedness plan?

I know sounds pretty obvious but I would appreciate it if I could get your opinion on this question.

also If you guys could give me an example of a situation when a plan had to be used.

Thanx!

1. In case of a fire- families plan an outdoor meeting place.
The reason for the plan is to increase success and decrease nervousness in the event of an actual disaster.
GOOD LUCK,

2. I got nailed by the Atlanta Tornado. Never saw that one coming because I thought they only hit trailer parks and cornfields. My wife was at a nearby restaurant and I was at home. When the storm hit, power lines were down and the utilities were out. I was out looking for her and she was trying to make her way back to the house. We needed a meet point. Besides that, we needed emergency supplies. Water was out and the fridge was no good after a day. Power was out for 4 days and we had to leave the house and risk the looters from the nearby hoods coming and grabbing our stuff. I went out and bought an emergency kit. There are tons of companies that sell 'em, but I like the site below. So, develop a meet point, plan a route of escape that avoids roads if possible and get an emergency kit in case you're stuck where you are!
