importance of emergency preparedness or actually how can my family prepare for?

for a real bad emergency;
natural disasters and things like that.
what steps, is there a guideline on how to prepare for a disaster?

2. Store 5 gallon jugs of water with sealed lids.Depends on how many are in your family.Store beans and rice also in 5 gallon tubs with rubber sealed lids.Store baby wipes in lu of toilet paper to keep sanitary,Imodium AD for intestinal infection.Store vitamins.a few cooking pans,Back pacs,to travel on foot.ect.

3. If you google "disaster preparedness" you'll get all the guidelines you need. Kits, food, medical etc...

4. There are tons of emergency kit companies out there. I got nailed by the Atlanta tornado and didn't have much laying around. I like this site because they have kits to sell and links to FEMA resources. Plus, it just looks more professional than the others out there.
