Why can't the aid reach the Myanmar people? I thought that the Red Cross?

could cross all political boundaries & help people globally irrespective of vested political agendas.

Public Comments

1. the govt wants to control the aid as a tool of maintaining control and power

2. Not if the generals say NO! Which they have.
Give us the aid and we'll distribute it, the generals say.
Everyone knows they'll just sell the aid on the black market as they have in the past. An impossible situation.

3. They have a corrupt government stalling relief efforts. They would rather have cash to dispense themselves. They don't care for their people!

4. The Red Cross will do that but it has to be OK'ed by the political government. The Myanmar government is a militaristic dictatorship and won't allow it. The Red Cross is a peaceful organization and can't go where their safety is not assured... They have no way to defend themselves.

5. well some countries are not open , burma is one of them .

by not open meaning they don't let other countries in

6. Because the Burmese government would rather see its people die than to see foreign aid workers (and foreign governments) from seeing how corrupt and dangerous they are.

The Myanmar government's actions (or lack of action) will kill far more people than the cyclone did.

7. Corruption! Black Market!and they're government basically, heartbreakingly sad but true.
