Should my dogs open carry or CCW carry?
I have two dogs that are very obedient that carry gear for me, a mastiff and a rottweiler. Each have been trained to carry a homemade custom pack vest. These vests have flotation assist in the packs and carry things like extra ammo, first aid kit and extra hiking food. So I am thinking of adding a holster with a 44 mag 629 inside. I want quick access to the handgun in an emergency, but I also want it protected as the dog runs through water, brush and muskeg.
So where should I put the holster and what kind of holster do you suggest?
I’ve even considered a shotgun scabbard on the Mastiff but am afraid it would be in the dogs way as it ran.
Ideas most welcome!!
Help me make my dog a pistol packing pooch. Lol
(If you think this is stupid; imagine being able to call a dog with a word or whistle and your now armed and supplied) Also if your boat sinks and you swim to shore, your dog got there with you and now you still have gear to survive.
Maybe just add a zippered compartment on the pack for the revolver? And where should it be?
Wow no one makes such a thing from what I found on the net.
Umm CCW is legal without permit in Alaska as long as you are not a felon. So my doggie and me be cool. I think he just has a few parking tickets. Lol
My problem folks is where to put it. On top of his back seems to bother them when he runs. Despite the vest with a built in harness the weight of the gun bounces against the dogs body. On the side it throws off the balance and the vest wants to turn, chaffing that side of the dog and hangs up on things or hits things with dog at full speed.
I guess a counter balance of gear? Sure, you guys gave me some ideas thanks.

1. LYK OMG DIS IS ST00PID!
Haha... I actually rather enjoyed this question, B.C.
If your dogs are going to carry, make it CCW. I'm not aware of there being any laws against canine concealed carry. Since dogs already conceal their most effective weapons in their mouths, I would think that adding a pack with a gun would be a great idea, especially up in Alaska.
Oh, and I would suggest that you consider a waterproof box for ammo, at least. I know ammo doesn't die if a drop of water hits it, but having a waterproof box could be useful anyway if you're ever stranded somewhere. Having ammo in it is an extra bonus. :)
2. Well they're almost as big as a horse, so they might as well wear a horse-pistol rig. I say open carry.

3. Does he have a conceal carry permit?
4. Actually you can have fast access and conceal ability. Sew a holster into the outside of the vest and then cover the entire opening with a nylon cloth that uses velcro to open and close. Near waterproof, and very unlikely a handgun would come loose through the normal rigours of a day. Use some type of "Fast Pull" cord attached to the top/opening flap and you will be in business.
So the answer to your question is CCW.
5. Considering that this dog just shot his owner in the butt, http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57334973/dog-shoots-owner-in-the-backside/ I'm not sure you want to arm Fido.
But hey, it's your azz on the line, not mine!
6. Assuming the packs are waterproof, can you just sew a holster into the top flap or in the top of the pack itself. Just pack everything well so that the contents won't shift and cover the gun when you want quick access.
7. There is no law that says a dog can not carry a loaded or unloaded firearm. "A person is guilty of carrying a concealed firearm." A dog is not a person. I am not a lawyer, but it makes sense.
8. Very cool, and I don't see a problem here.
9. It is illegal, and unlawful for Dogs to carry openly, or concealed.* Only Cats are Empowered, and Authorized under the U. S. Constitution to do it.* Buy a Cat.* Problem solved.*
10. ooh! ohh! mare's leg! mare's leg!
11. I would just sew a cheap fanny pack pouch to the vest, in an area where the weight will be fairly balanced.
Edit: I would reorganize the vest so that it is fairly balanced when it is loaded.
I'm jealous, I wish I had a doberman.
12. I'm sorry I can't be of any help, but you sure make me want to move to Alaska. It sounds like a truly free state.
Thought you were joking when I first saw the question. Love the idea.
