Help with a First Aid Quesstion.?

DISCUSSION SITUATION: YOU ARE AT A VOLLEYBALL GAME, A CHEERLEADER FALLS FROM ATOP HER PARTNER'S SHOULDERS. SHE IS LYING MOTIONLESS FACE DOWN ON THE GROUND.

DISCUSSION QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU DO STEP-BY-STEP FROM THE TIME YOU SEE HER FALL? (WHAT DOES YOUR EMERGENCY PLAN TELL YOU TO DO?) YOU CAN LIST YOUR ANSWER OR WRITE IT IN A PARAGRAPH. IN THIS CASE, YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO EVALUATE WHAT HER INJURY IS. JUST LIST WHAT STEPS YOU TAKE WHEN YOU APPROACH THE VICTIM, HOW YOU CHECK HER AND WHAT YOU DO UNTIL YOU ARE SURE SHE IS TAKEN CARE OF.

Public Comments

1. you follow the first aid ABC

D - check for danger to self / send someone to call for help
A - airway (and C-spine)
B - breathing
C - circulation

you should be able to google this and expand on this

2. You approach her and kneel down, saw her name and touch her gently to see if she is responsive. If not, call 911. Next, do not move her, check to see if she is breathing and check to see if she has a pulse. If she is not breathing you must start giving her mouth to mouth. You must roll her on her back, preferably with assistance so that you can move her upper and lower body at same time. Try to stabilize her neck while turning her over. Once on her back, check her breathing and give mouth to mouth if not breathing, check pulse, give chest compressions if no pulse. Continue cpr until help arrives

3. Call 911, so that someone certified can help her. If you are supposed to be that "certified" person, then you should check for responsiveness and breathing. If she has a pulse and is breathing regularly, then leave her alone until help can arrive to transport her. If she does not have pulse or is breathing irregularly, then she will need to be flipped over. It's important to keep her head, neck and spine in alignment while this is done so that her injuries aren't worsened. If you need to perform CPR, do not do head tilt maneuver, just do the jaw thrust maneuver and perform CPR as directed (according to your training).

4. I have taken first aid many times here in canada, this is what they tell us to do.

1) check the seen if some one is there ask them 3 questions.....
what happened? how many people are injured? is it safe?

2)Before approaching them approach them from the end of the feet or if their face is turned walk towards that side, so they don't turn there heads and further possible injury. Then tell them not to move there heads or body.

3) a)check if they are responsive if they are unconscouse or not.

b)tell them you are a first aider and tell them you are here to aid them.....if they say no, you can't really, but if they are are unconsciouse you are allowed to

4)a)you discover they are unconscouse or they have a serious injury were they are immoble or uncontrolable bleeding.......tell someone to call 911, someone else to do crowd control, and someone else to bring a first aid kit and a blanket or an improvisation similiar to the needs.

b)there is no one with you, call 911 and continue assesment

c)(turn them over if you must but make sure their spinal alighnment is proper and do not twist head) if they have fallen get someonone to lay on their chest behind the unconscouse persons head and mobilize there head so it is facing up and tilted back so they DO NOT CHOKE on there tongue.......
but make sure spine is in line with the head, unless they are awake alive yet immoble..

d)if there is no one with you tilt there head up for them and place something like clothing in the underneath the back neck area to tilt the head and to prevent choking on tongue

e)if they are awake and breathin and responsive simply tell them not to move until EMT arrive

f)If they are awake and breathing and not responsive tilt there head back and hold it still

5)a)if the person is unconscouse and you notice bleeding, you must block the area, wrap anything around it tight enough to prevent serious bleeding. After control of area check vital signs

-Make sure you do a thorough body check look underneath clothing if necesarry, pat them down first to check swelling, tenderness, foreign particles or blood or fluids (make sure to use gloves or avoid if toxic harmful substance apply) while on crowd contol, Do Not look in private areas unless sign of bleeding,

5)b)If they are responsive and breathing pat them down lightly untill you find pain, then check underneath for bleeding, discolouration or tenderness if non apply simply keep that area warm do not rub or move unless otherwise

6) a)There is no heart beat and breathing in this case give them two full breaths of air let the chest expand..then do chest compressions 3 sets of 10 count 1 and 2 and 3......make it not too fast or not too slow...this will repeat until paremedics arrive.

b)if there is a heart beat but no breathing, they may be airway obstruction...
Give them a breath WITH their head tilted back....if the chest rises there is no obstruction, but if it doesn't then do chest compressions to remove it..

if there is no obstruction yet still does not breath, then you can breath for them until the EMT arrive.

7) if your workplace has AED or automated external defibrillator use it if there heart stops.
