What emergency / first aid items are useful or useless to have in the car?

Public Comments

1. Gloves, guaze, CPR mask is all u really need. Unless you are trained to use other stuff.

2. plastic strips
povidone iodine
gauze
burn ointment

3. Nothing, stop being so negative. But if you must have just band-aids and water.

4. I have a rather extensive first aid kit (it's actually a jump kit...just like you would see on an ambulance) in my truck. My jump bag contains all kinds of dressings, bandages, tape, antibacterial oinment, saline rinse, a snake bite kit, an OB kit, a burn kit, a protective equipment kit, trauma shears, forceps, tweezers, hemostats, spray-on bandage, peroxide, alcohol, more gloves, cervical collars (all sizes), board splints, inflatable splints with a pump, oxygen masks, BVMs (all sizes), ACE wraps, cold packs, hot packs, lap pads, trauma dressings, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, pulse oximeter, a roll of aluminum foil, a roll of saran wrap, a roll of duct tape and a pair of pantyhose, a glucose meter with a lancet device and lancets, oral glucose, activated charcoal, acetominophen, baby aspirin...and a host of other items.

However, the most important items I keep within immediate reach are a CPR mask, some gloves, a window punch, a seat belt cutter and a permanent marker.

Number one important thing...my cell phone.

Some of the items I listed may seem odd...but any other EMT or medic would know the importance of those items.

EMT

To Frank...I'm an EMT-Intermediate. My jump kit is fully stocked and I am fully trained. The only things I don't carry are an oxygen tank, spine board, KED or head blocks. I DO have a refillable fire extinguisher.

5. JUMP KIT is very important, but make sure you are well trained for some of its materials..
but i mostly carry, CPR mask, Gloves, Alcohol, Povidine Iodine, Traingular Bandage, Trauma Scissor or just a plain scissor..

for me a two way radio that can touch the frequency of a medical first responder(police officer) or paramedics and my cellphone...

6. A nice kit can contain a pocket mask for CPR, some dressings, tape, scissors, flashlight, and like my friend, a Fire Extinguisher. As for Miss Cake Frost, hope you never need help and nobody has any equipment!! When you have a car accident or car fire with people burned, you see what having some basic supplies matters!

7. EVERYTHING. if ive learned anything from camping/hunting its that you need to be prepared for anything. make sure you have bandaids, some sort of cleaning agent (iodine, alcohol), water, LOTS of sterile gauze, ace bandages, scissors, tweezers, razor blade, burn ointment, medical grade tape, pocket knife, non-aspirin, sunscreen, gloves, and an emergency blanket are really basic, "old faithful" items.

it sounds like a lot, but quite honestly, it doenst take up much space and to be caught without any of these things when you need it is terribly unfortunate.

8. If there is an accident like collided with other vehicle the first thing is called the ambulance immediately, they will take time to reach the destination to check the condition don't move the injured person kept the person conscious like using smelling salt one of the first aid item look for minor wound, using distill gauge using a twizer clean it with distill water another first aid item.

first aid kit will come in handy when u least expected

9. have plenty of gloves!!! bandades, scissors (the kind to cut off colthing) trauma dressings, guaze, curlex, tape, sterile water, pain reliever, cpr mask... the most i have used out of mine are my gloves and bandades..... ive used other things, but it has been in a 911/ first responder situation, so my first aid kit is much bigger than most...
