What is the difference between Japanese and American Red Cross?
Our school is debating whether to donate to
1. American Red Cross
2. Japanese Red Cross Society
3. Local organization such as Sendai or Miyagi
I've done research and found that 10-20% of donation money goes to Japan through American Red Cross. What about Japanese Red Cross Society? What % goes to Japan and what % goes to the company itself?
Public Comments
1. Each country has an independent Red Cross or Red Crescent society. Israel has the Magen David Adom.
The American Red Cross is transmitting all Japan-specific donations to the Japanese Red Cross. This allows American donors to receive tax deductions for their donations.
That said, more than 90% of all money donated to the Red Cross goes to actual program operation.
