Bad weather and dogs? Please help.....?

hey everyone! i just wanted to post this question asking for help. have any of you experienced bad weather? i know you all may have heard of the tsunami and earthquake in Japan that happened last night. very, very tragic. i live in the Hawaiian Islands, and we have a tsunami watch too. some of the beaches are just flooded for now. no one knows how much worse it will get, since the first waves aren't always the worst.
but i need to know what to do for my dogs in case i have to evacuate. some towns and cities already did on my island. plus there was an earthquake on one of the other islands. that wasn't too bad cause it's kinda a daily thing over there. i have their medical records, i.d. collars and dog first aid kit. i have a 15 pound bag of unopened dog food that i keep in case of emergency. we have water, blankets and a few toys and bones for them. is there anything else i may need? in case i have to take them to the shelter, i would like to know. any help is appreciated. i've never been through this with animals. i just want to be prepared if worst comes to worst, you know?

1. Easy, just put them on a boat. :D

2. I heard about that its so sad all those losses of life ,i am in the UK and we don't get things like that here but starred for my contacts and hope they can help you out.
I hope that all goes well and keep watching the news for updates.

3. Sounds like you're doing well so far. The only thing I can think of to suggest at the moment is to microchip your dogs if you haven't already, in case you get separated. Also, make sure you're rotating the unopened dog food so it doesn't get moldy (yes dry food gets moldy). For instance, if it's been awhile since you've bought that bag, open it and see if it looks okay, if so I'd use that bag up after you run out of the current supply, and buy another bag to reserve while you're on that one. So every time you have an open bag you have an unopened one for emergencies also.

Also, you need to check around and see what shelters will even allow pets and if there are any restrictions they have. You'll probably need at least a collar and leash for each dog (some may ask that you provide travel crates/kennels, head collars or muzzles- these are not the same thing).

The ASPCA has some good resources for this kind of thing, and other general questions. Here is a page with some disaster preparedness information on it :http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/disaster-preparedness/
