Has anyone volunteered for the American Red Cross before?

I'm looking to volunteer to get some work expierence and for college applications. I have signed up to get trained to volunteer for the American Red Cross. If you've worked with them before was your expierence good? Is this a good organization for college applications? Thanks for your answers :)

1. Every American Red Cross is different. For instance, in Portland, volunteers do everything from inputting the data from people who take training into databases to staffing warming centers for the homeless to staffing training programs for other volunteers and on and on. In addition, every Red Cross is going to have a very different internal culture -- what's true of one place may not at all be true of yours.

Universities want to see leadership volunteering -- where you lead a project, where you trained other volunteers, where you had a lot of responsibility, etc. The American Red Cross provides all of those opportunities.
