If you were in my situation, what would you bring along?
I'm going on a backpacking trip into the mountains and I need to double check that I have everything. I'm huffing it medieval style so I'll be building my own shelters and getting my own food. I have a bow hunting license, a camping license, and all the necessary legal stuff. I just need to make sure I have everything for some real wilderness survival. I have only a few granola bars as back up, a first aid kit, and other such necessities.
If you were to go on this trip as well, what would you make sure you had? (You have only a small backpack [school size] to bring it all in.)
I'm an experienced backpacker and wilderness survivalist. This is just my first time going out without a full tent, sleeping bag, and the whole modern works. I just want to make sure that I have everything I'll need

1. First aid kit, torch, swiss army knife, and a phone just in case something goes horribly wrong.
oh and lots of snack bars.
2. I certainly hope your trip is a short one. Living off the land is harder then you think it is. Here is a checklist for back packers

I would still bring all the food and supplies you need for the length of your trip with you, any fish or game and edible plants you do find will just enhance your meals and allow you to stay longer if need be. Mountain Men survived because they were not fools they always had supplies enough to start with and never assumed that they could survive only by what they found,(even the TV survivalists know that). Be prepared for and expect the worst and anything better then that is a blessing.

No need to explain yourself as I have heard it all before. By your asking it shows your lack of experience. A thumbs down to the advice shows the foolishness of your actions nothing else. Good luck to you.
3. Knife, Rope, Lighter or matches, Map of the area, compass, water purifying tablets, notebook and pen, and fully charged cell phone just in case you need it.
4. I am a 30 year adult Boy Scout leader. I am Wilderness Survial and survial medic cerified . The best way to get in the long time wilderness journey is to start on the 2 or 5 day adventures. It gives you a start of wilderness life and you can keep your mind set is you go. It is like most in life. Start on the little trips and go longer as you feel safer, nd you will learn as you go. Most people are smart enough to start on an 8 to 10 wilderness adventure. Learn of what you can and not eat in nature. There a lot of things you can eat, but many food like things are not really for eating. One of heavy tarp, 5X7, is all you need to keep yourself for a bed. Rain will not hurt it, and the tarp is not likely be torn as you sleep. Knife, weather gear for the time of year, matches or stick and bow for fire heat or cooking. Small cook pan, and water source. Water is the most important of all of the things you have. You can go without food for at least 3 to 5 days, but friend you have to water.
5. wilderness survivalist that normally carries a tent and sleeping bag......interesting.....what kind of wilderness survival are you planning on doing....I guess you meant "roughing it "
what you'll need is:
10X10 canvas tarp or 6 mil black plastic..(pack it out even if it rips)
pocket knife
hatchet
stainless steel pot small so it can double as a drinking mug
broad brimmed hat
scarf of cotton
sharpening stone or 1 mil basterd file or both
magnezium and flint striker or flint , steel and char
2 wool blankets preferably Hudson bay 4 point or Early Whitney
1 small bag of dried red willow bark and 1 small bottle of horse liniment
5 lbs of beef jerky..( you do this your self...store bought stuff is bad for you)
2 lbs. hard tack..( you also make this stuff your self)
1 knife with at least a 6 inch blade , preferably heavy carbon steel like bayonett grade(just in case)
that should get you there......where ever that is.....probably need a compass and topographical map of the area you will be hiking and if you can triangulate....it would really help.
100 ft para cord or cotton boat line
some candles with pre lit wicks......they catch easier
