Where is the best place to set up camp for a few months?

I live in West central alberta, And Im looking to fall off the planet for a little wile. I have done a wilderness survival course and have 40 hours of first aid, including wilderness first aid. I have camped be for, mostly car camping. I don't drive BUT its not really a limitation. I want to ruff it.

Im looking for something "free", and leagal,some where secluded BUT with in a days walk to the nearest town/hamlet. Preferably NOT in the heart of bear country. I dont know anyone with any land.
do i need a permit to be on crown land?

As far as gear is concerned, Im pretty well set. i am concerned about food.That's one thing don't know much about. I have my Hunting licence and Firearms permit but don't want to hunt game. I would prefer to live off Multi vitamins and rice but im open suggestion

Any advice or a google map link would be AWESOME.
