Using a credit card online, is it safe to give out your credit card number ?

i was looking to book a first aid course through the red cross but it requires me to give my credit card number to pay. Is that a safe way to pay or can they take as much as they want from the card?

1. people buy stuff with their credit card a million times a day , dont worry about it.

2. No, whatever they say is the total, that's all you'll be billed. Make sure the site is secure. If the web address is https...instead of http....then it's secure and you're safe. They could also have a symbol for a secure site like a lock or something....you're good to go either way.
