Improving Emergency preparedness among California Residents?

Include an explanation of the role government and non-government agencies should have in assisting groups of individuals improve survival and reduce their risk of injury or death during a natural or man-made disaster.

Public Comments

1. Look up the CERT program (Community Emergency Response Team). This is a program that trains volunteers in each neighborhood the basics of first aid, 'light firefighting,' hazard identification and reporting, how to shut off gas and electricity, how to (and where to) send reports on what assistance is needed etc.

Another thing is that disaster prepardness seminars should be given at local churches and as part of any community event (such as 'parent's night' at the local schools).

Ideally, each family in a community should be prepared to survive for 5 days before assistance arrives.
