can the british red cross go to africa?
k im 16 and i have a form to volunteer for the british red cross. i have chosen first aid... there were other things on the list eg.shop volunteering. i would like to know does the first aid involve going to africa because that's what im int rested in.. if you know plz email me at gcutie93@yahoo.co.uk

1. You would be a bit young to go to Africa. These sort of posts would tend to go to over 18s. The first aid would be useful for all sorts of things in the future so I would start there.
When you get a bit of experience you could talk to the experienced officers about volunteering overseas. You could also think about the sort of skills and training which would allow you to be most useful there, maybe with someone like VSO, Oxfam, MSF etc. As far as I know the British Red Cross might only send out short term volunteers to deal with a crisis, more permanent posts would be with the International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC but all the people I have met from them have had professional qualifications.
