Why are you guys comparing the Red Cross to religious groups that proselytize whilst giving aid?

The Red Cross is a secular organization, isn’t it? It doesn’t promote any religion, right? The Red Cross never tells people, “You can have this piece of American bread but only if you believe Joe Smith was not a liar and promise not to laugh at our magic underpants,” or “You can have this piece of Catholic bread but only if you promise not to mention pedophile priests,” right?

Public Comments

1. Who is doing that? I must have missed it. Perhaps they are confusing the Red Cross with the Salvation Army?

2. ok then

3. I've never heard of "American bread" or "Catholic bread" before.

where do you shop?

4. You are correct... the Red Cross is a secular movement (and no, the fact that the majority of the members are religious shows nothing more then the fact that the locations where the volunteers come from are also majority religious).

5. Red Cross, and it's companion Red Crescent, certainly appear to have religious themes; However, I've never seen them proselytize during disaster relief.

6. Some one is actually doing that?

I agree. Those who feel the need to push their religion alongside charity work are dishonest.

Conditional charity is NOT charity.

7. Non sequiter.

8. You really seem to be going off on the mormons today. Did somebody break a date with you or something. Go ahead and let it out sweety...we care and we want to help you, but you have to use your words

9. Human, why does the Red CROSS use a Christian symbol ...? The CROSS is a Christian symbol is it not?

10. Your point.

11. You clearly have never volunteered during a disaster.

No religious group does what you are describing.

American bread? Catholic bread? Ridiculous.

And the religious groups do tremendous relief work because it is the right thing to do, not becuase they will gain converts.

Relief and mission work are completely different.

12. yea -- doesn't happen like that. I echo maxmom.

peace begins when the hungry are fed --- what have you done to help that today?

13. Your ignorance of Christian organizations is showing.... or should I say your prejudice and delusional views.

What have you ever done to help someone? Kick them while they are down?

14. You are only trying to stir up contention and anger. Shame on you.

What in the world has caused such deep-seeded bitterness? Who offended you? What offended you? It's clear that you do have a HUGE chip on your shoulder. In the long run, it is only YOU who loses. Is it really worth it to spend your life focusing on the anger and bitterness?

The things you focus on will multiply in your life. Do you really want a life FULL of bitterness, hatred, and anger? Honestly, is it really worth it?

You can choose the way you desire to go, and you ARE choosing. However, the things I have seen you choosing to do and say on Y!A will never lead to happiness.

You can care not what I say. You can choose to entwine yourself in this web you are spinning yourself into, but I hope that one day you can let it go. Whatever it is or was that so deeply offended you. There will come a day where you will think back and regret that you have spent your life so shallowly and bitterly. It doesn't matter whether you are religious or not religious or whether you hate all religions together. You will one day realize you have wasted your life on this anger and hate, and you will have nothing to show for it but your own grief.

Let it go. Give it up. Stop allowing this bitterness to eat you from the inside out. Even if you never want to have anything to do with religion again, there is no need to spend your life miserably.

I, for one, cannot fathom why anyone would waste life on something that will end up being fruitless and just end in emptiness.

15. And..................................??

I support my church and red cross. Both are donating to the efforts. To my knowledge the church isnt exchanging bread for conversions.
