How is the american red cross association considered to be heroes?

1. The term "hero" has been, in my opinion, too broadly defined. However, a hero should 1) be a volunteer, 2) be prepared to make some sacrifice of time, resources, abilities for the sake of someone in dire straits.

The ARC fits these qualities.
