What are the American Red Cross social issues?

Please list possible social issues of the American Red Cross.

1. Their policy on gay males donating is a HUGE social issue. A male cannot donate if he has had sex with another male. That is policy left over from the 80s when people thought gays were the only people who could get hiv or aids.

While it is true that there is a high occurance of hiv/aids in the gay community, its not the same sex relations that make them higher risk. Its actually the anal sex, which spreads stds easier because there is a higher chance of blood on blood contact. Also, drug use is higher in the gay community, and sharing needles is a quick way to get hiv.

The problem is that the red cross' policy should NOT discriminate against orientation. Rather, the policy should be about the practice of unsafe sex regardless of gender or orientation. Last I checked, gay males are FAR from the only people that have anal sex or share needles.
