First Aid Course ? Help?

I would like to take a first aid course but i would like to now exactley what's included. like does it tell you how you know if you got a concussion ?

Public Comments

1. First aid course will most likely not tell you when you have a concussion. They are designed for people with little or no medical training, so they teach you the very basics. CPR, some bandaging, splinting, keep yourself safe, Call 911, ect. Concussions are a little more advanced, but a quick way to tell if a concussion is likely is if there has been an injury to the head or that may have caused a jolt to the head (like a car accident or a trip and fall) AND there is a change in behavior or consciousness.

Good Luck

2. I took the class at my school for free, but I also took it online for a fee but it's cheaper than the Red cross. You can check a site called www.icpri.com
What I liked about taking it online is the fact that there is no time frame to pass the test; you could watch the videos over and over until you got it right.

3. It all depends on which class you take. I teach BLS (basic life support) and CPR/AED classes. Basically we go over the legal aspect, Universal precautions (using gloves) and then get into the meat and potatoes of the whole thing. CPR and AED use, treating and caring using first aid (shock, bone break, bleeding, choking, burns, etc.) Each class is different and will be taught different. I have my class sit for an hour and we go over the legal part and the other 6 hours is actually doing. Some classes do teach to see if you have a concussion but not a lot of them. If you get a really cool teacher then it will be a blast, but for the things your looking for, might I suggest a basic EMS class or EMT/B

4. Disaster preparation should be a family affair and must include some first aid training. The person best suited for the job, should be the designated caregiver.
