What qualifications do I need to run a drama club?
What qualifications do I need to run an after school drama club for children? I have red cross first aid, experience as a nanny and a classroom assistant but no child qualifications. Do i need them to get insured? Thnx! xx
I do have performing arts qualifications, sorry that wasn't clear.

1. try
2. none.
3. where would you be running it? Would it be in a school? I'd talkk to the school and see if they're willing to support you. As you work in a school you have a CRB which entitles you to work alone with children - but I'd advise having some volunteers too!
I think you'd need an understanding of basic managment too.
I don't think there would be specific project managment qualification you'd need but I think if you have the time, support and inclination that should be enough :)
good luck
4. Some centers cary insurance for things that are done on their property. Check it out.
5. I would think you would need some kind of elementary school teaching certification. If you teach for a school, I would imagine you're covered. But I wouldn't think just anyone can open a drama club for kids.
It sounds like a cool thing to do though. I hope you can work it out. Best of luck.
6. Well, I think that you should approach a local primary school and offer your after school drama club to them - if you can run it at the school, (presumably you are already C.R.B checked?) then I don't think you need any specific qualification. As long as you can explain to the Headteacher what you will be doing, then I think it should be fine.
7. Probably none, but you will need police checks to work with children
8. You would certainly need a police CRB check done on you and anyone else who would be involved in the class. I would have thought you would have to have qualifications. Enrol in your local college they do all sorts of drama classes. I have a degree in performing arts from uni which entitles me to teach. So especially if you were to charge a fee then parents would want to know your qualified. It depends where you were to hold the classes for insurance if at a school they may already have it for after school clubs.
9. no you just need the school to know about it and they just have to check that you have not had any criminal record that involved children and then you are set to go
