Blood shot eyes?

Ok, so I took my puppy to the dog park last night (12 weeks old ) and when we got home her eyes were runny and blood shot and her little puppy belly was all blotchy red and itchy. It was late and I didn't want to call an emergency vet so I just washed her belly and put some first aid cream on it and it was gone within 10 minutes. I wiped her eyes with a warm cloth and the goobers have stopped but they are still blood shot tonight. Is this a problem? They don't seem to be bothering her but it looks horrible! Anything I can do? Any warning signs that it's really bad? What if they sting and are dry, poor girl :(
Kep in mind people that the "dog park" is just a little grassy area at my aparment complex and also remember that vets are closed memorial day.

Public Comments

1. Take her to the vet asap

2. Call the vet first thing tomorrow.

She should not be going ANYWHERE till at least two weeks after she has had her third puppy series (given at about 16 weeks) You are setting her (and you) up for di$a$ter by taking her to the dog park at 3 months.

3. Your puppy may have an infection. Like, we humans get pink eye. She might have some infection in her eye, that you should be able to cure. I would call the vet and ask a few questions and they will tell you what to do. Give her lots of love and make sure that she is feeling 100%!

Hope this Helps!
Best of Luck!

4. The warm cloth was a good idea, alternately you could try a cool cloth. (I have allergies myself, and a few minutes under a cool rag really cuts the itching for me.)

My vet has me use a saline rinse (people eye drops that are preservative free) on my dogs after I have them in weeds or out swimming--one of my furkids ends up with really irritated eyes from that stuff.

Definitely call your vet--a lot of them have answering services for stuff like this and they'll take them message and call back later.

It sounds like she maybe got into some kind of irritant whether chemical, or plant related, its hard to say. Or maybe she has environmental allergies. It's supposedly rare, but it can happen. She could also have a conjunctivitis-like infection.

Any way you look at it, the vet is probably your best option.
