1. it seems like only old ladies get attcked by pitbulls i have read tons of stories of this
2. I don't believe my city or anywhere in my state has a law like that. It's understandable why there is a law like that though considering the owner is responsible for the dog and the dog obviously needed a bigger fence and more obedience training.
At least it's not just talking about Pitbulls- I'm sure a golden retriever has attacked before.
3. another stories that adds the the media uses to spread the fear about pit bulls. Just shows that the Media never tell everything and only what portrays them as evil. They never really put the blame where it belongs.
4. Yes we have laws in Melbourne Australia where people will be prosecuted if their dog attacks another person or accidently knocks a person down and the person is injured. Even if the dog escapes. The laws even extend to damaging a person's property - so if the dog escaped and was hit by a car - the owner of the dog can be prosecuted for having a dog at large and not in control of the owner. Also, the owner of the car can sue the dog owner for the damage to their car. Owning pets is a responsibility. Our laws are about promoting responsible pet ownershp.
We also have laws where dangerous breeds (there is a list of them, which includes the pitbull) must wear a particular type of collar, must be on a lead when off the premises and that there must be safeguards in place to ensure or minimise the risk of a dog escaping. The house must have a sign warning people that a dangerous breed is on the premises.
A person who is attacked by any dog can also take a civil suit out against the owner for personal injuries and/or property damage. It is important to note that dogs can cause serious injury and even kill. I know of a case where a dog was off the lead running through a busy park. The owners were walking a short distance behind. An elderly lady was walking along the park trail as they came to a bend the dog collided with the lady. She was knocked and fell heavily. She sustained multiple broken bones, including her hip. The elderly lady never recovered and died a few days later. The owners of the dog were found to be liable. They had to pay for all the medical bills, pain and suffering to the deceased ladies estate, and they were prosecuted and had to pay a substantial fine. They should have had their dog under control in a busy park.
5. y the hell r u so against pit bulls. u probably have never given them a chance. that is like me saying i dont trust labs because i heard of people be attacked by them. any dog can attack if it isnt trained or it is chained up in a yard somewhere with little human socialization. grow up and give them a chance. that would be like me not giving u a chance because ur 3rd cousin twice removed killed someone 10 years ago. is that really fair.
6. My Ganny was attacked by a cocker, My nephew Mike by a chow, my grand nephew Austin by the family lab. A six month old baby was killed be a 6# pom. My father by a chihuahua. It was my little rat. Worst dog I ever had. I'm all for dangerous dog laws as long as they are not BSL.
7. Like I have said before. People need to take responsibility for their dogs actions, no matter what the breed.
8. I would sue if my grandmother was attacked by a chihuahua, I would sue if my grandmother was attacked by a golden retriever. This is pure negligence, breed has nothing to do with it.
