Is this price to small for babysitting?

i'm 13 and i would like to start babysitting. i've practiced with family and i took red cross babysitting, standard first aid, and cpr child and infant courses. i was thinking about $2 per hour per kid or $2 per hour and $1 for every extra kid. How much do you think i should charge, and is this to small of an amount?

Public Comments

1. Yeah that's really small.
Most sitters charge $7-10 per hour.

2. woah!!!
that's way too little- where i live i get paid anywhere from 7-10 dollars an hour and up (depending on the number of kids)
start out with five or six an hour (doesn't matter how many kids unless you go above three) then work your way up. once you earn credibility, you'll just get paid more automatically.
good luck!

3. Because your quite young and some parents would REALLY hesitate to leave their children under your supervision (not critisizing your ability, but your only young). Then maybe start at about $5 per hour for one child, $6 for two, $7 for three and so on..

4. thats way too small of an amount i didnt take any of those courses and i got paid 8-10 dollars an hr. and also charge by the hr its a lot easier i would say do 7-10 dollars.

5. 10 dollars an hour is ok

6. That is kinda little. I mean a lot. I think you and whoever you're gonna babysit for work out a reasonable price. When I started babysitting, I didn't know what to say when she asked me what I thought was reasonable to be paid for the job I was doing (2 girls, ages around 2 and 5). I told her I really wasn't sure so she told be that her other babysitter (her other babysitter got a job so couldn't babysit as often) got paid 5 $ per hour for the 2 kids.

I was fine with that. I think around 3-7 dollars per hour is reasonable depending on how many kids and how long. Like if you're doin multiple kids for a long period of time then you should get paid a little extra. For example of new years I babysat 6 kids but the parents were upstairs, they just needed someone to watch all the kids while they had their new years party. For that I got paid a little less per hour (because they were still home) but I got paid a little extra because I babysat multiple kids, for many hours on new years.

So it really depends, things vary on different things and it also depends on what the parents are willing to pay. It's hard to put an exact price marked in stone. So I think, you should ask whoever you're babysitting for what they think is reasonable because 2$ per hour and 1$ extra per hour for an added kid is too little for you to waist your time babysitting.

7. It depends where you live but that is really low even where i live. I would start at $3.00 an hour and $2.00 for each additional child.

8. Just like any job... the more experienced and the more certified you are the more you can charge... if you decide to raise your price for you current customers...let them know at least a month in advance that for the next month you will be increasing your rate...so that they can prepare... the amount you charge should also vary on the age of the child because that is going to be a factor in the amount of time and effort on your part

9. because you are certified, you should charge much more. i would say at least 5$ plus 3$ per kid, then raise your prices when you are more experienced. 2 $ is not neerly enough
