Are you aware that the Bush plan is working in Baghdad?
Ignoring Surge-Related Drop in Baghdad Violence, Times Frets Over Crowded Jails
"The numbers suggested that the security plan's emphasis on aggressive block-by-block sweeps of troubled neighborhoods in the capital had flooded Iraq's frail detention system, and appeared to confirm the fears of some human rights advocates who have been predicting that the new plan would aggravate already poor conditions."

The Times finally reports on the results of the troop increase in Baghdad, which seems to have brought a measure of safety to some of the most dangerous areas of Iraq's capital – but Kirk Semple and Alissa Rubin's A1 article Wednesday ("Sweeps in Iraq Cram Two Jails With Detainees") ignored that angle in favor of concern about…crowded jails.
"Hundreds of Iraqis detained in the Baghdad security crackdown have been crammed into two detention centers run by the Defense Ministry that were designed to hold only dozens of people, a government monitoring group said Tuesday.
"The numbers suggested that the security plan’s emphasis on aggressive block-by-block sweeps of troubled neighborhoods in the capital had flooded Iraq's frail detention system, and appeared to confirm the fears of some human rights advocates who have been predicting that the new plan would aggravate already poor conditions.
"The disclosure came as violence continued to tear through Iraq, including a double suicide-vehicle bombing in Tal Afar that killed at least 55 people, the authorities said, and the murder of two Chaldean Christian nuns in Kirkuk."
The second half of the article catches up on all the recent violence in Iraq, but interestingly, not the violence in those targeted Baghdad neighborhoods. Could it be because the "aggressive block-by-block sweeps" are having a positive effect on public safety? Apparently, that's not newsworthy.
The rest of the story is filled with anecdotes of violence -- notice the nicely played cheap shot on Bush.
"In the most destructive of the two suicide attacks in Tal Afar on Tuesday, the bomber was driving a truck partially filled with sacks of flour for bread that concealed his explosives. He started handing out the sacks to people, saying it was free aid. But as a crowd gathered around his vehicle, he detonated the bomb.
"An Iraqi police colonel said at least 55 people had died and 183 had been wounded.
"Salih al-Qadu, the president of the main hospital in Tal Afar, said his staff had received 50 bodies and more than 100 wounded people. 'We are still getting more injuries, so I can’t give you the death toll now,' he said late Tuesday.
"The hospital had called to Mosul for emergency supplies, he said, but gunmen turned back the vehicles carrying the supplies."
"Tal Afar was once cited by President Bush as an example of American military success in Iraq."

1. Yeah, have you noticed how the war in Iraq is not all over the headlines in the news anymore. This has to be a sign that things are going good over there now. Because if things were going bad, you know we would be hearing about it.
2. What is happening is exactly what happened the last FOUR times Bush tried a Baghdadd crackdown: the violence decreases in Baghdad--and has increased elsewhere in Iraq. And when his "surge" is over, the same thing will happen that happened the last four times: the violence will re-escalate.
Meanwhile, more Americans will die fo no other reason than that Bush hasn't got the guts to admit he's wrong.
3. 120 people were killed yesterday outside of Baghdad. 60 in car bomb attacks and 60 by the Iraqi police in retribution for the car bomb attacks. What makes the second attack even worse is the Iraqi police went itno a city and just strted shooting people randomly. Yeah, things are getting better in Baghdad, but going to crap outside of Baghdad.
4. So making a few neighborhoods safer in Baghdad can't really be considered a "victory" if we are simply causing the sectarian violence to move to other areas like Tal Afar, where over 100 people died in two days of sectarian violence.
The bottom line is with our "surge" we're just playing an expensive game of "whack-a-mole", and as usual those who are causing the violence have us spending a lot of money chasing our tails.
5. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! The dems want to make sure the war is lost, they've even created a timetable for running up the white flag, Iraqi people are amazed at how terrible their country is portrayed in American press, because all but the sunnis lived in daily fear of their lives under Saddam, now only the sunnis have experienced what you could call "less safety". Iran is hoping to keep things destabilized in Iraq as their allies push Isreal to give up more land for peace (well heck it worked last time, right?), but picking on the Brits now has them thinking they might have to draw back and dig in, even the war protestors and leftwingers in the UK are mad at Iran now. A military victory against Iran would be devestating to the macho men running the country. And a good decisive tailkicking is just what our troop morale needs right now.
6. police in Bush supply uniforms are shooting for revenge of
their death friends after completed their training
the country is falling apart with American helps
7. "Abdul, we better lay low until these crack american troops who have closed down all the roads leading into and out of the city are reopened. They can't keep them closed down forever. Right now it's too dangerous to go out. Just wait till they take down the roadblocks, then we'll execute our own version of the surge-bombings."
8. Working lol only a fool would think that we are winning the war on terror. We need to bring our troops home terror is not winnable. Other kind of wars are winnable this one isn't , terrorism is a different kind of breed. We are wasting our money just sitting there training the iraq troops. There is a terrorist attack every day in Iraq. How can you stop a person from blowing himself up??? You can't right. I could be a terrorist see you never know who is who that is why this isnt a war this is something we need to live with. I mean we live with tornadoes and other disasters. Why can't we face the truth about Terrorism. Death happens everyday we can deter it but we can't stop it from happening. Bush is a very bad president War hungry and credit card spending president. We need a big change in america hopefully our next president will make that happen.
9. once again a BushBot explains how the increase in death and destruction are signs that BushByGod's policies are working.
you repub's are the most misguided humans I've ever been made to know. live in your little fantasy world buddy. you've obviously got a lot of company there.
I encourage every one to vote republican, straight down the line in 2008. if you think us democrats are fixing this mess, get back in your fantasy. Texas is full of cleaning people. (until they get the fence built, with illegal workers by the way)
10. Sure. Iraq is going well. The insurgency is in it's last throes. Where have I heard that before?
