What is the difference between EMERGENCY and STANDARD first aid? Hi, for a job I want to apply for it requires one to have Emergency First Aid and CPR level "C". However, the place I am getting my first aid from has the following seminars: "Emergency First Aid and Level A CPR", and "Standard First Aid and Level C CPR". I was just wondering what is the difference between them, and which one is better to take in my case? So do I have to get the seperate CPR Level "C"?

OPEC or oil producing countries do nothing for the poor, emergency aid is non existant? Why do the OPEC countries never do any thing to help people that are starving or in need of disaster help? Is it because of their false beliefs and religion? To understand what I am talking about the US donates almost all the aid in the world when things go bad and the middle eastern countries never do anything for anybody. All Americans pay with their tax dollars to support the rest of the world. Why do the OPEC nations never help anybody? Is it because they are bad people or have a false religion?
First response or Emergency first-aid? Are there any good books out there for someone who's not a professional, who just wants to be prepared if a situation comes up. So I can know what to do before the ambulance arrives or if help is going to be awhile. I've looked at some wilderness first-aid books but they don't describe how to know the difference in sypmtoms if someone was having a heart attack or a cardiac arrest. Those are just examples. Thanks for any help.

Theoretical medical question (emergency first aid)? Suppose you're at a picnic, and someone you don't know begins choking on a hot dog. The are unable to breath, and you attempt the Heimlich manoevre several times without success. It appears that no one else in the area is able, nor volunteering to help. After 90 seconds, the choking person's lips and skin become cyanotic (blue), indicating that they are nearing death. At the last moment, you successfully perform a tracheostomy with a fishing knife, restoring their airway (you are not a doctor, nurse, or paramedic). An ambulance arrives minutes later, taking the patient to the hospital. You later find out that during your tracheostomy, you damaged the person's pharynx, and they will be unable to speak for the rest of their life. Suppose the person sues for damages, given that they are now mute. Is it likely that they will be awarded any compensation? Why or why not? PS - This is purely theoretical. I'm just curious what might happen. spaznskitz: Do you really think so? The only two choices here would be to do nothing and let the person die, or to take the last emergency measure after both manual removal (fingers down throat) and the heimlich failed. One option is certain death, the other gives the person a chance. Besides, after lips start turning blue, you are flirting with permanent brain damage, and very close to death. I know of no ambulances that can get to some random picnic location in anywhere close to the amount of time that would be needed to save the person's life. You know that after about 4 minutes without air, you're pretty well toast, right?
What are some household products that can be used for First Aid? Obviously, every person in ahome should be able to dial the Emergency Number with clear instructions and a First Aid kit in homes is always a good idea, but what natural household products can be used for First Aid? I know pepper can be used for cuts, aloe for burns (after it's been under running cold water for at least 10 minutes) but are there more? Hazel: All the sites I've read about burn care have said: " do NOT put butter or salt containing substances on burns."
What do you keep in your First Aid Kit for the barn? After a quick trip to the vet this morning (nothing serious), I got to thinking. What does everyone keep onhand for minor First Aid in the barn? I keep Furizone, Cut n Heal, peroxide, vet wrap, iodine, etc. Not just something you need a prescription for, but just good items to keep on hand for the minor everyday bump, scatches, and scrapes that horses seem to get. Or items that can help in an emergency until you can get to the vet. A lot of new horse owners may not have these (or even know that you can use a lot of household items for horse First Aid) and sharing this information could save someone a lot of stress.
Are there laws requiring public places to have FIRST AID kits in case of emergencies? I'm curious about this. It only makes sense that every public place has some sort of FIRST AID KIT to treat, lets say a somewhat deep cut, or a puncture, etc., while rescue workers get there. I'm sure this would help in the spread of MRSA (methicillin resistan Staphylococcus aerous) which has just killed a young man in Virginia, making 21 schools close. Supposedly this bacteria will be killing more people than AIDS!!!
Is this the right first aid course for me? I want to pursue a career in medicine and i feel that this will be a good thing to write on my personal statment. Is this (Emergency First Aid for Appointed Persons - First Aid) the right course for me? Thanks ;)
Should I take a Standard or Emergency First Aid Course? I want to learn first aid because a lot of jobs now a days want their future employees to have this mandatory. So in your opinion which one should I take? Is Emergency first aid to hard for a beginner like me or can anyone take it at any level? OR should i get standard before getting emergency? :S
Is it really legal to be denied emergency health aid if you dont have insurance? My nieces mother called me today and told me that she went into the emergency room with chest pain. The doctors found a clot in her arm leading to her heart (she has always had health problems). The emergency room called every cardiologist in our city. Every single one of them refused to see her because she doesn't have health insurance. Is this really legal, that in an emergency they refuse to see her? What can she do, she doesn't have the money to afford insurance? Any suggestions? Please, and Thank you guys.

What should I put in my family's First Aid kit? What should I put in my family's First Aid kit? I think it would be safer and smart to have a disaster/First Aid kit in case of an emergency, but I can't really think of what to pack. Can you help me?
Can my employer require me to "be responsible" for First Aid? I work in live stage theatre, I usher the shows and sell tickets. My employer is paying all of us our regular wages to take first aid and CPR (in canada) However during the upcoming season she is thinking of making a policy in which one person each evening is "responsible" for responding to any first aid emergencies. This seems to put alot of pressure on a person (like me) that in a real emergency situation wouldn't be able to keep my cool and remember how to do things properly. I've been trained in first aid before, and I've been on the site of emergencies before (I was the emergency once.... hehe broken leg:P I don't handle those situations well. They frighten me and I've always had someone else to pass the first aid responsibility to. I'm wondering if my employer is able to give me this responsibility without my consent?
Who coordinates emergency aid efforts in Haiti? I was thinking about all the different countries and aid organisations that are helping, it would chaos if there was not somebody in charge. I expect the Haitian goverment officials are not qualified in coordinating such activities so who does?
Giving $ to emergency relief to aid Gaza and Lebanon a crime in US? I want to donate to a charity that gives emergency relief aid to widows and orphans in Gaza and Lebanon. However i want to be sure i am not breaking U.S. law by doing so. Is this OK? I have heard stories about American citizens giving charity to this region and being incarcerated.
using Vicodin (hydrocodone) for emergencies (first-aid kit)? I do a lot of adventuring and backcountry snowboarding. If I am doing anything serious I always keep a good first-aid kit with me. On one occasion the friend I was with fractured his elbow while we were snowboarding, and was in serious pain. It wasn't serious enough to where he needed to be airlifted or something like that but it was 2 or 3 hours before he could get to the hospital. All I had was OTC pain killers like ibuprofen and aspirin, and wish I had something stronger like hydrocodone to give to him. I could get hydrocodone from people I know and trust that have some left over from surgeries. Do you guys think it is wise to keep this in my first-aid kit and administer it in an emergency? I know it's illegal, but don't you think the benefits might outweigh the risks?
Super confused about First Aid and CPR Training...? Hey, first of all, thanks for checking out my question. OK, so I work at this place where one of the job requirements are to have Emergency First aid and CPR level C. I have no training in any of these areas, but they hired me knowing this and I always work with people that have this training. I just got my Summer work schedule and it turns out I am going to be working alone now, starting mid-July. I feel it's in my best interest to get certified now that I will be working alone. My questions are: 1. I am required to have Emergency First Aid training, but I have checked my local Saint Johns Ambulance and the course for Standard First Aid training is twice as long, but only $10 extra. I figure I might as well get that instead, but does that mean Standard First Aid outranks the Emergency First Aid? Meaning, f I have Standard First Aid, does that mean I am more than qualified, or does that mean that I need to also get Emergency First Aid? 2. I also need CPR Level C. Is This included in my First Aid Training? If not, how long does this course usually take for and how much (ballpark figure is OK) does it usually cost? 3. Where I work there is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Am I also trained to use this when I am trained in EFA/SFA? If not, is there any way I can get trained to use this, or does it even require training? If it helps, I live in Canada and work with children and infants. Thanks, and sorry for all of the questions! :)
i need first aid training? im going to need to obtain these things to get into the college course i need to, are these easy to obtain? 1 valid St. John's Standard First Aid Certificate (or equivalent), Emergency First Aid Certificate is not acceptable; 2 valid CPR Basic Rescuer (Level C) Certificate;
First Aid course: part two? As in the earlier question, i've done a first aid course before, in CPR about 3 years ago, but now i'm looking for a part time job, am 18. Just a part time job in retail, which one from the site below would be good for that? http://www.stjohnnsw.com.au/t_fatc.html Or the most comprehensive - that i would be able to use in everyday situations, but is not too overwhelming in overall content, just right for a teenager? I'm leaning towards either Emergency First Aid, which seems good enough for what i would need - to be a good citizen and all - or Advanced First Aid, on the advice of another Answerer, but the latter is a LOT of information to grasp, having just finished high school, and uni (hopefully) next, i don't think i'd be able to grasp or even retain most of that info.
What kind of First Aid Kit would NOT be eligible for a Flexible Spending Account? I would like to purchase a nice Emergency First Aid Kit with My Flexible Spending Account (FSA). What wouldn't qualify? Would this one that I would like to get be eligible? http://www.abfirstaidstore.com/product/fogg/first-aid-kitslarge-kits/1500-first-aid-kit I am frequently outdoors pursuing adventure sports like Rock Climbing, Kayaking & Backpacking and am an active Triathlete as well. This kit would be for the house and back of my SUV and would be a comfort to know it's there. I've also taken Wilderness First Responder Courses and was a Combat Lifesaver in the military so I know a few medical tricks. Would this kind of kit be eligible? Thanks in advance.
