1st aid supplies Knowledge Base
any ideas on raising money for college (books, supplies, and new computer not covered by financial aid)? i'm returning to college after a loooooong lapse. i'll be starting October 1st in a fashion marketing program. financial aid will be paying the majority of my tuition (thank you federal grants and loans!) and the rest i can pay off in installments. the problem i have is that i have to come up with upwards of $2000 for books, supplies, and a specific laptop before i can even start classes. i've considered making and selling some of my purses to help, but the cost of supplies pretty much eats away the profits. i do have a part-time job, but i am also a single parent with a child to support. does anyone have any original fundraising ideas that might help me out?

If the media is not liberal then why are they not reporting the progress in Iraq? Evidence of improvement in Iraq. By Bill Crawford An important step in stemming the violence in Iraq is to find a formula to share the country’s oil revenues fairly between the three main groups: Shiite, Sunnis, and Kurds. Iraq is preparing to take a step in the right direction by providing opportunities for foreign oil firms to invest in the country, thereby increasing its output and revenues: The production-sharing agreements (PSAs) would allow oil giants to sign 30-year contracts for extracting Iraqi oil. Under PSAs, the state retains legal ownership of its oil but gives a share of the profits to companies that invest in infrastructure and in operating the wells, pipelines and refineries. The newspaper [the Independent] said that under the draft law, oil companies could recoup 60 to 70 per cent of revenue until initial costs had been recovered, which compares to around 40pc usually. Along the same lines, Lt. General Graeme Lamb, Deputy Commander of Multinational Forces-Iraq, sees 2007 as the year that Iraq moves forward, and says he sees plenty of progress to base his optimism on: Let me give you an example. I was out at Hit the other day, Ramadi. The battalion commander out there, young battalion commander — actually, I suppose he's not that young; he just looks it — had been in Ramadi two years before, had done a full year's tour. As far as he was concerned, he always just seemed to be going backwards. When I saw him the other day, as far as he was concerned, they were making huge progress. Ramadi. Four months ago I don't think there was any policemen in the town. Seven hundred and ninety-one now. They were shot at from a building. Two hundred policemen drawn together surrounded the building, cleared it. Now, that's just an example of some progress. I then look at some of the economic issues. I look at the megawatts of power that are coming on line. I see some of the reconstruction programs that are going out. Now, that gives me a degree of optimism. I see this prime minister. I see this government. I see the challenges they face, and I'm not trying to dismiss the difficulties or trying to give you some sort of political upbeat spin. I don't do optimism. I don't do pessimism. I just do realism as I see it. And I do spend a lot of time out here. I spend a lot of time out here. I got a feel for the Arabs. So it's just the way I see it, and it's not sort of in effect trying to — I don't know — make something out of nothing. I think the situation here — you know, as someone once said — I think it was a field marshal of ours said things are never as good or as bad as you think they are. I just see these in fact at a point in turning. Mosul and al Qaim are other areas where significant progress has been made over the past year. In Mosul, Iraqi police and army forces have brought law and order to a historically violent area: “Yes, there is violence in this city. But, there is violence in American cities that have nearly two million people in their population as well,” said [Maj. Gen. Benjamin R.] Mixon. Recognizing the similar levels of violence in a comparable city in America, Twitty paints an optimistic picture of the current state of Mosul and Ninewa Province. “Amidst the turmoil and issues that persist in Iraq, there is a semblance of peace and normalcy in the north. Ninewa’s leadership works hard to provide its citizens security, build its economy, and implement programs that will continue to keep sectarian violence from the province,” said Twitty. “One thing we cannot do is attempt to put an American standard on any Iraqi city,” said Twitty. “We have to remember that this country lived under a dictator for more than 30 years. The major and significant difference between U.S. cities and Mosul is the use of improvised explosive devices, rocket-propelled grenades, and other military - grade weapons. Anti-Iraqi forces persist in their attacks, but the Iraqi security forces, consisting of the Iraqi Army, border patrol and police, continue to quell those attacks daily,” Twitty continued. Al Qaim was frequently called the “Wild West,” but the Marines cleaned the area up in 2005, and the situation is improving daily: Two years ago, the same streets were fraught with roadside bombs and snipers, and sellers and buyers stayed away. The area was considered too dangerous even for a quick tour by a U.S. general in his armored Humvee. The Al Qaim region routinely was described as an out-of-control "wild west" where the Marines were fighting, with only limited success, to control the smuggling of insurgent fighters and weapons from Syria. Today, Marines walk the downtown beat, chatting with residents, fielding their complaints, encouraging them to contact the Iraqi police if they suspect insurgent activity. In a country studded with areas where the United States either has failed or had only limited progress toward stabilization, Husaybah and the surrounding Al Qaim region stand out as a success, officials said. Unfortunately, the American people aren’t hearing about this, as Army medic Corporal Ignacio Garza observes: Based on his experiences in Iraq, events there are not as bad as the news media make it seem, an Army medic from Adrian said. Cpl. Ignacio Garza, a medic in the 1st Armored Division home on leave after serving in Iraq for six months, said the troops don’t watch television news for war updates because they think none of the networks show an accurate depiction of what’s happening. He said they ignore large parts of the country, including the Kurd-dominated north, that are stable. In fact, if the mainstream media isn’t ignoring a story in Iraq they could just as easily be making one up. For the second time in six weeks, the Associated Press has put out a story from Iraq that isn’t backed by the facts: The Associated Press has again put out an Iraq story detailing events that did not happen. This time, it involves an airstrike that, " killed a family of four during a firefight." However, according to the press desk of Multi-National Forces-Iraq, no air strike happened during that firefight, and MNF-I also reported that which six insurgents were killed by American troops in Baghdad on January 1. This is the second time in roughly six weeks that the AP has been caught fabricating events. Iraqi Security Forces In an operation on January 7, members of the 6th Iraqi army division captured the leader of a cell responsible for kidnappings, murder, IED attacks, and car bombings. Near Baqubah, soldiers of the 5th Iraqi army killed three insurgents during an operation to capture a cell leader. The Iraqi patrol came under fire from men exiting a mosque. They returned fire, killing three. The 1st Iraqi army division assumed tactical command of the 2nd Brigade on January 9. The brigade will operate within Fallujah: “We will be loyal soldiers to defend our precious country and to implement security and stability,” said Brig. Gen. Khalid Juad Khadum, the commanding general of 2nd Brigade. “And this will hit the pages of history in godly words, and we promise Allah that we will take care of this handover and to protect it, God willing, until the last drop of our blood, and Allah is a witness of what we say.” The Iraqi police enlisted 301 recruits during a recent recruiting drive in Fallujah and Habbaniyah. The new recruits will undergo six-week basic training in Jordan. Another 400 were enlisted during a recruiting drive in Ramadi. The situation was far different last year: One year ago a murderous intimidation campaign prevented local Iraqis from enlisting in Ramadi. Recruiting numbers for police were insignificant. More than 1,000 enlisted in the police force last month. Over 800 are expected to enlist in Anbar Province this month. “The local tribes stood up to the intimidation campaign and are taking back their city from the terrorists,” said the Coalition spokesman in Ramadi Marine Maj. Riccoh Player. “Hundreds of Iraqi Police are holding areas cleared by Iraqi and American forces in recent operation in the worst neighborhoods of Ramadi,” said Player. “Building and manning a police station in Ramadi is what progress looks like in a counterinsurgency.” Based on tips from Iraqi civilians, the Iraqi national police, with Coalition forces, detained ten and uncovered several weapons caches during an operation in Baghdad: The operation was the result of tips from local citizens of possible insurgents and weapons caches in the neighborhood. The national police seized three large weapons caches containing one rifle fitted with a silencer, one machine gun, one sniper rifle, assorted small arms ammunition and bomb-making materials. In Fallujah, Iraqi police and army troops captured 47 insurgents during Operation Ar Bead. The operation was planned and executed by Iraqi troops, who have tamed the once restless city: “The district police chief – this was his idea,” said Lt. Col. Race Roberson, the RCT-5 police implementation officer. “It was (an Iraqi Security Forces) operation; they were the owners of it.” ”The police are a strong force, and they will go anywhere at anytime in the city of Fallujah,” Roberson said. The Iraqi army has begun a major operation in Baghdad. Thirty terrorists were reported killed on the first day, including five from Sudan. The 2nd Division of the Iraq army is now operating independently of Coalition forces. In Qasaiba, soldiers of the 5th Iraqi Army Division captured the leader of an insurgent cell operating in the area: The insurgent cell leader is suspected of limiting the travel of Iraqi civilians in the area through intimidation and violent criminal activities. It is also believed the cell leader coordinates and conducts kidnapping, torture and murders of Iraqi civilians and security forces in the area. On January 10, Iraqi soldiers rescued a kidnapping victim: Working on a tip, Iraqi troops from the 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (Mechanized) searched for the kidnapping victim’s vehicle. They discovered it on a farm. Upon conducting a cordon and search of the farm, the soldiers found the kidnapped Iraqi in a farmhouse unharmed, with his hands tied. Iraqi Special Security Forces captured two leaders of an insurgent cell during an operation in Al Doura. The cell is responsible for car bombings against civilians in Sadr City and IED attacks against Iraqi security forces. In Tal Afar, Iraqi police killed four insurgents after they came under attack while on patrol. A later search of the area found a weapons cache consisting of 12 RPGs and two mortar shells. Iraqi army special forces captured 19 during an operation targeting the leader of an insurgent cell responsible for attacks against Iraqi civilians and Coalition forces. During two operations in Fallujah, Iraqi soldiers captured six members of al Qaeda. The men are suspected of involvement with IED attacks against Coalition troops and weapons trafficking. Iraqi security forces joined Marines and U.S. soldiers in conducting a successful operation to clean up Ramadi: Iraqi Army, police and Coalition forces seized hundreds of weapons and explosives during the operation, including three mortar systems, 101 mortar rounds, 90 pounds of explosives, eight rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 47 AK-47s, five Dragonov sniper rifles, 26 grenades, 26 mines, 34 artillery rounds, 12 rockets and other items used to attack Ramadi’s security forces and civilians. During the operation 44 enemy combatants were killed and 172 suspected insurgents were detained. The Iraqi army captured a high-level insurgent leader during a raid in Hajjan: The suspect is allegedly an experienced IED builder and an illegal armed group member. He was believed to be training other illegal armed group members how to construct and employ IEDs. Prime Minister al-Maliki has finally been convinced to drop his protection of the Mahdi army. The move came after U.S. officials convinced al-Maliki that the militia was infiltrated by Shiite death squads. In related news, Sadr’s political block is ending its two month boycott of parliament. Two tips led Iraqi national police to a kidnapping victim and a sizeable weapons cache in Baghdad: “This raid was planned and executed entirely by the Iraqi national police,” said Maj. Blaine Wales, the team chief for the 1st Battalion, 7th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi National Police Transition Team. The weapons cache consisted of 31 mortar and artillery rounds, 12 rolls of detonation cord, one can of ball bearings, three blocks of C4 explosive, 100 blasting caps and fuses, two completed improvised explosive devices, multiple batteries of all types, four handheld radios, nine cellular phones and seven completed electronic circuit boards similar to those found in roadside bombs. In eastern Baghdad, an Iraqi patrol found an IED before it could be detonated. In Baghdad, an Iraqi army patrol successfully fought its way out of an ambush: While conducting a routine patrol in Baghdad’s Fahhama neighborhood, an element of the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army was ambushed by a group of insurgents armed with pistols and AK-47s. The patrol immediately returned fire on the men attacking them. Two insurgents were killed and four others wounded in the fire fight. Tips from citizens led Iraqi police to two large weapons caches: The first cache included fifteen 9mm TNT rounds, a dozen 90mm Composition A3 rounds, five 155mm High Explosive rounds, four artillery fuses, six 20mm rockets, and nine RPG rounds among other items. The second cache included two 105mm rounds rigged as improvised explosive devices. Iraqi Police captured the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq’s cell in Samarra during an operation on January 18. Iraqi forces captured two high-level insurgent commanders in separate raids: Special Iraqi army forces, with coalition advisors, captured a high-level terrorist leader today during operations in eastern Baghdad, military officials said. The suspect is allegedly affiliated with Abu Dura and other Baghdad death squad commanders, and is responsible for assassinating numerous Iraqi security forces members and government officials. Military officials said he has also organized kidnappings, torture and murder of Iraqi civilians. During operations in Samarra yesterday, Iraqi police forces with coalition advisors captured the suspected leader of several al Qaeda in Iraq terror cells. The suspect is responsible for directing several IED and small arms attacks against Iraqi security forces, coalition forces and Iraqi civilians. During the operation, combined forces captured an additional insurgent and confiscated IED components, assault rifles and ammunition. In Morocco, security forces have disrupted a cell responsible for recruiting terrorists to fight in Iraq: Moroccan security forces have dismantled a radical cell recruiting volunteers to fight in Iraq and arrested 26 people, the government said on Thursday. In Tal Afar, Iraq forces discovered a tunnel leading below a house where they found a weapons cache consisting of 200 pounds of explosives, more than 125 rockets, and 2,500 rounds of ammunition. Over at the Department of Defense website, a map of Iraq shows the progress made by Iraq’s army over the last year. “Green areas” indicate areas under control of Iraqi forces. The “green areas” increase significantly as the year progresses. Check it out. Security Operations Raids across Iraq targeting al Qaeda resulted in the capture of 25 suspected terrorists. Nine terrorists were killed in a series of raids in Baghdad over the weekend: Nine terrorists, including an al-Qaeda leader, were killed during raids conducted by coalition forces in Baghdad today and yesterday. Also, one terrorist was wounded, and three were detained during the raids. A known al-Qaeda weapons dealer was among those killed during today's Baghdad raid, according to officials. Another terrorist was wounded in the action, while two more were detained. The wounded terrorist was provided first aid and transported to a nearby medical facility. Coalition forces had targeted the weapons dealer, whose body was identified by his wife. In other news, coalition troops killed six terrorists and detained one suspect during a fierce morning firefight in Baghdad yesterday, officials reported. Intelligence reports indicated the targeted location was used as a possible al Qaeda in Iraq safe house for terrorists to conduct operational planning. Another 90 al Qaeda terrorists were killed by American and Iraqi forces during a ten-day operation near Baghdad. A patrol consisting of troops from the 1st Cavalry Division uncovered seven weapons caches in the village of Arab Salman Salman: …uncovered the caches, which included 51 rocket-propelled grenade rounds; 11 RPG launchers; two assault rifles with 13,000 rounds of ammunition; six 57mm rockets; eight plastic explosives; two 120mm artillery shells; two 137mm missiles; 225 pounds of explosives; and other IED-making materials. Iraqi and Coalition troops discovered a weapons cache in Yusufiyah consisting of materials used in the manufacture of IEDs: The cache, which contained a variety of improvised explosive device making items and weapons included six 120mm mortar rounds, a directional charge, five rocket propelled grenade launchers, seven RPG charges, nine RPG rockets, 150 small metal cylinders filled with plastic explosives, 1000 7.62mm rounds, 200 ft. of detonation cord, seven hand grenade fuses, five hand grenade shells, five long-range antennae, 22 transformers, four cordless phones, two cordless phone base stations, two cell phones, 12 cell phone cases with assorted parts and 12 60mm mortar round casings. Twenty-eight suspected terrorists were captured during raids across Iraq which targeted the safe houses of foreign terrorists. Over the past month, paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne have found more than 500 artillery rounds that could have been used to make IEDs or VBEIDs. Reconstruction & Economy If it were any other country, the reconstruction of Iraq would be a huge story. As of December 31, 2006, there are 658 projects underway at a cost of $2.67 billion, 3,026 projects have been completed at a cost of $7.11 billion, and 94 more projects are planned. A $43 million upgrade to the Al Basrah oil terminal is expected to be completed by April. The upgrade includes an emergency shutdown system, control valves, metering system, and fire protection. The upgraded terminal will meet all international safety and metering standards. Twenty hospitals throughout Iraq are currently undergoing $103 million in renovations. A small water project was completed in Dahuk Province. The new water storage tank and pipeline serves more than 1,000 residents of Dahuk. An $8.6 million renovation to the Samawah Railroad Maintenance Center has been completed. The Samawah site is one of two railway maintenance centers in Iraq, and employs more than 250 Iraqis. Iraq’s power grid is now being monitored by a central control system, called SCADA: “The main function of SCADA is to create and maintain a digital connection in order to check the provinces’ power loads and control them easily by connecting them to the central power distribution points,” Perry said. The SCADA system includes input and output signal hardware, controller networks, and communications software. There are 47 primary health-care centers under construction in northern Iraq. The first completed center recently opened in Salah Al Den Province: More than 112,000 people in the Salah Al Den Province are receiving healthcare from the first completed Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) in the north. Built by local construction companies with quality assurance managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this $3.35 million dollar facility provides routine and initial emergency care to patients including X-ray, laboratories and dentistry. Medical supplies and laboratory equipment were included in the contract to make this facility complete and operational. On January 15, three new schools were opened in Mushahidah: an elementary school for girls, a secondary school for girls, and an elementary school for boys: “This is a great example for the projects in this area,” said Shiek Naif Moutlak, the chief of the city council. “We thank the coalition for all they have done and hope for other projects in the area to help the people.” The Pentagon is helping fight unemployment in Iraq by reopening factories that were once owned by Saddam Hussein: Under a new program, the U.S. Defense Department is already helping reopen factories that were owned by Saddam Hussein's government and abandoned by occupation authorities shortly after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. The Pentagon may also start providing them with contracts to support U.S. troops. One factory restarted operations in the past two weeks, and nine more are to open by the end of this month, adding some 11,000 Iraqis to employment rolls, a Pentagon official said Wednesday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not been released yet. The president’s speech this week put Iran on notice that the U.S. was going to work to prevent its interference in Iraq. Iraqi forces took the first step in confronting Iran when they raided Iran’s diplomatic mission in Irbil: Iraqi officials said today that multinational forces detained as many as six Iranians in an overnight raid on Tehran's diplomatic mission in the northern city of Irbil just hours after President Bush gave details about his new military plan for Iraq. The forces stormed the Iranian mission at about 3 a.m., detaining the five staffers and confiscating computers and documents, two senior local Kurdish officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information. Irbil is a city in the Kurdish-controlled north, 220 miles from Baghdad. Japan is preparing to loan Iraq $3.5 billion for reconstruction. In the city of Al Qosh, Medics from the 1st Cavalry Division treated more than 80 people during a humanitarian mission to the city: During the mission, one female physician’s assistant and one female pediatrician medically examined over 80 people; 65 percent children, and 35 percent women. Three dozen soccer balls were distributed to the children of the town, courtesy of a donation from a radio station in the United States, as well as clothing, toys, shoes, and school supplies.
Why did the US use appeasement to solve most of their problems in the Mideast (Pre-Bush)? Because it worked to well? -The US gave & still gives billions of appeasement aid to Egypt in return for Israeli-Egypt peace & it has worked extremely well. -The US gives hundreds of millions of dollars in appeasement aid to Pakistan & in return they have become a major US ally. -Jordan & Saudi Arabia also receive US appeasement aid (either regular or military) -N. Korea is just the latest to receive appeasement from the US by the US lifting sanctions & paying them off with fuel oil supplies in return for them shutting down their nukes. Every 1st world country in the world has used appeasement at one time or another in order to solve a difficult & potentialy enourmous costly problem. Does it always work? No. The worst case being WW2, but often times it does work, like with the Israel-Egypt peace agreement or the Cuban missile crisis which saved tens of 1000s if not hundreds of millions of lives. So before you go totally disregarding appeasement think about it's successes & not just WW2.
How can I cool the upstairs better with A/C? We just had our 3 ton A/C replaced with 4 ton A/C due to adding A/C and heat to rear addition. Our overall house sqare footage is 2500 sq ft. Problem: The 2nd floor even after upgrading to 4 ton unit still is warmer than 1st floor. How can I get more airflow to the second floor? Add another return to the second floor? More details: The HVAC guy ran 1 ton to the addition with 5 branch supply registers. He added a 2nd return register at the floor level below the ceiling return. He did this by cutting into the exsisting return trunk on the first floor. When he replaced the furnace he also cut a small return duct 14 x 7 on the opposite side of the main return on the furnace. How can I correct the problems? 2 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. Additional Details 2 hours ago - Furnace - Airstrong Oil Furnace; blower and A/C rated at 4 Ton - Duct size: Main supply and Return is 23" x 8". Return is centralize in the house as a box accending 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor return is 14 x 14 and then reduces at floor level of 2nd floor to about 14 x 10 probably because I have an open foyer. We have added 14 x 8 supply at plenum for 600 sq ft addition off the back of the house. We added a small return to the existing return in 1st floor return riser to pull air from addition. The HVAC guy also added basement return at other side of furnace return to draw more. Upper floor is fed by 6" round supplies that are converted to 8"x 4" square risers to get to the second floor through exterior walls. -Static pressure: no idea -Installation and windows: new double hung windows and R13 in outside walls and about 6" blown insulation in attic Is a basement return on the furnace any good? Seems to me it will just recirculate already dehumified cold air... 2 hours ago Outside condensing unit is a Payne 48,000 btu 4 ton a/c 2 hours ago This is very annoying. I have just had the 3 ton unit replaced with 4 ton unit and I think the HVAC guy did a band aid on the duct work. As mad as I am, I am ready to cut drywall and enlarge the returns if need be.... I won't go down without a fight and drywall knife and duct work in hand.... don't have an attic exhaust fan yet but were putting in a mushroom- we do have a return on the 2nd floor but the duct in the wall is reduced from 18 x 16 to 14x 10 to the upstairs probably because it is in the hall where there is a wide open foyer - the HVAC contractor cut an opening for a furnace mounted return in the basement on the other side of the furnace opposite from the main return trunk. Should I run the basement return through the garage to the 2nd floor to add more return up there? we are pulling air in the basement because we went from 3 ton to 4 ton without adding to the main return trunk except by adding another 1st floor lower return below the upper ceiling return on the first floor
How mean is America, Michelle Obama? YANGON Myanmar The United States is "outraged" by Myanmar's delays in allowing relief workers and aid shipments into the cyclone-devastated country, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations said Thursday. U.S. military planes loaded with aid were still denied access by the country's isolationist regime five days after the devastating cyclone. A U.S. official said the Bush administration is considering air-dropping food and other supplies into Myanmar. U.S. dispatches more supplies The U.S. military, meanwhile, sent more humanitarian supplies and equipment to a staging area in Thailand. A C-17 transport plane with water and food landed Thursday, joining the two C-130s in place, Air Force spokeswoman Megan Orton said at the Pentagon. Another C-130 loaded with supplies was on its way, she said. Not enough text to fit the rest of the relief effort that we the MEAN USA, according to Michelle (potential 1st Lady) Obama, are attempting to provide. Always have always will ! IS SHE PROUD YET? Nonothat, You see the picture clearly. Michele C, you haven't got a clue do you? gyver, you are probably a decent person, but your rhetoric about racism and( America stealing oil?) and about America doing more bad then good sounds like you might be the captive victim of some, old white, liberal collage professor, if I had to venture a guess. The truth is America has always been first on the scene to give aid and comfort to the people of the world in times of trouble. Shame on you, or anyone, for implying that it is done for show. my2cents, I'm glad your intrested. Study before you vote blindly.
Do some ppl/ groups/ nations hold themselves back? Abroad? Here? I'm all for helping others. But, I also believe in cleaning our own house first. Our church gives money for polio vaccines in various African nations every year, but there never seems to be any decline. This week, missionaries from our church came back. They showed all kinds of photos/ films of what they saw and did and experienced while they were there.... and then, it hit me. The decline in polio here in the US occurred as a direct result of BOTH improved community hygiene & polio vaccination. We had sanitation measures start up, street sweeping and the formation of gutters to wash away piles of waste, which then reduced the # of flies in the cities. We had specific times for dumping waste waters, as well as separate clean water locations. This caused a decline in poliovirus infection here in the US. http://www.polio.com/?FA=learn/travelers... Fact is, we improved our national health by improving the cleanliness of our drinking waters. The link above shows that contaminated drinking water is one route by which polio is transmitted, since fecal matter in water may carry the disease. Yet, here we are sending money and vaccines to nations/ villages/ communities that still keep their animals and latrine trenches uphill & close to their drinking water. Every rain, the ground soil carries the living vius directly to the nearby water supply. We can't get them to change their ways, no matter how many educational materials and health teachers we send over there. Kind of like, back in the early 90's, when we saw this spike in HIV in Africa (now at 80% 0f the adult population there), the US sent billions of dollars in aid and condoms... they burned the condoms in outrage, but never did any harm to the money. There are ppl there that have a ritual of sex on the first night after the birth of a child, with the newborn in the same bed. Companies don't bend to the rituals, so either a man must find someone else to work his shift (and give up the money) OR get someone else to lay with his wife on the 1st night. Strangely enough, surrogate mates for that first night is an actual business in some part (in this country that has an 80% HIV-infected adult population). Does that seem backward, to blindly cling to old rituals and ways even when science proves them to be harmful? So, I'm wondering if others have considered how aften ppl may hold themselves back. Can you think of other ways that ppl/ groups/ nations/ cultures might hold themselves back? Abroad? Here in US? Tell us examples, if you can think of any. I want to see real sharing, not whining and hate-mongering.

Is this okay? Does it offend anyone? Does it contradict Yahoo Answers 'T&C's or Community Guidelines? IS/ARE THE PERSON(S) WHO GOT MY ACCOUNT SUSPENDED/BANNED PROUD OF THEMSELVES? Dear Sir/Madam, I have been informed that my account with Yahoo Answers has been suspended, and have been asked to supply a reason as to why it should not be! I would like to put to you, and your committee, that my contributions to Yahoo Answers has been mature, informative, and, by way of emails sent to me, by both desperate youngsters (whom I am very, very proud to help, when they have had urgent, and nigh-on, suicidal needs!), and very needy adults... in want of honest, direct, and sometimes, urgent assistance of both, reassurance, and help, after I have aided them in overcoming their fears, insecurities, and despair! Yet, once more.... prejudice, envy, and diabolical intent, has forced your hand in suspending my account? I have done my utmost to help people, request help, on behalf of both myself and friends... too shy, and it seems, with very good reason, assault on their character, to enter the questions themselves! They have asked me to act on their behalf, exactly for the reason you are suspending my account..... fear of retribution, and/or they are in a dilemma, either too embarrassing (to them!), or beyond the point of caring to know of a 'way out'. You will find, in many of my answers, that I care enough to ask the persons in great need of help, to email me personally, so that I can help them further.... only where it is obvious, or I have felt, in my heart-of-hearts, that they have been in 'dire need', or a serious medical/psychological condition is prevalent, or imminent! I have experience in this! My mother and father were alcoholics... I was routinely beaten and abused as a child.... both of my parents suffered from mental health disorders (bipolar disorders, and social phobia's), I have since, lost my mother to 'alcoholic cardio-myopathy'. My best friend died two years ago, as she was a self-harmer, and God bless her... she committed involuntary suicide! I have been trained to deal with abuse victims by the University Student Union, where I was Head of Social Welfare Services, and will continue to do so, either on your site, or via other help sites to which I am affiliated. I also feel that my experience lies in my 'life circumstances'. I am a single parent of three children. A son aged 14, and daughter's, aged 11 and 10. An 'awkward age', I am sure that you will agree, for a family consisting of two parents?! I left school with no qualifications, after taking their 'advice', "to leave before my exams, as I would not amount to anything'', and worked, from the age of 15, for two years, in an abattoir.... I was a Butcher! I went on to work as an ambulance driver for six months. I went back to college, and heaven forbid.... defied my detractors... and passed all qualifications with 'distinctions'... then onto a 7 year University course, to study Architecture. During this period, I worked as a delivery driver, in a car auctions, as a betting shop manager, an architectural technician, and as a production line supervisor manufacturing micro-electronic circuit boards! I gained a BA (Hons, 1st Class) in International Architecture, a Master's Degree in the same, and passed the Royal Institute of British Architects (R.I.B.A.) membership exam's, Parts I, II. and III, with 'merit'. I own my own Company, am self-employed as a practicing Architect, and am currently fighting tooth and nail, to stop this government's disgusting, abominable, persecution of all things English, accomplished, and 'legally/morally' attained, and obtained. I am a huge believer in 'if you don't laugh.... you cry', remedial therapy! This is how I have survived my whole life! I am very empathetic to people's problems, and believe that if you can make ONE single person smile, even once a day, you have achieved more than expected, desired, or wanted from you. Indeed, I truly believe that, of the 365 smiles that you can put on peoples faces, in one year, you will save one person from suicide.... make one life-long friend, and will have 'earned' the right to claim that, 'I did Okay this year... next year I will make two smiles per day, and feel twice as relevant!' Unfortunately, this is never the case! This suspension has proved to be the undoing of that theory! I am fast losing the trust, and ability, of certain persons to act in a reasonable, unbiased, just, independently thinking manner. I am not perfect! I am not 'righteous', nor conformist! I have to some(or many?), a distasteful sense of humour and I am outwardly confident. But, I am fair! When I see someone truly in need of advice or assistance, I provide it 100%! For reference, consult my Questions and Answers! As I stated, I have read your 'Code of Conduct' and 'Community Guidelines' and I know the expectations placed upon me! So I again ask you, which, if any, codes of decency, respect, 'Terms of Service', practice, or responsibility, have I infringed? The only inkling I have rec received, and you felt it necessary to send was as follows:- Account suspension notice email From: Yahoo! Do some ppl/ groups/ cultures/ nations hold themselves back? Abroad?

I need SERIOUS HELP! someone please help me!? I have a private school that is giving me problems and I don't know what to do and how to start about things correctly! PLEASE BARE WITH ME! I am not rambling but stating things which you can see make more sense as you read. I have no credit and got a few loans to attend Art Institute. The whole time the admissions representative was very very eager to get me into the school asap. I told her several times that I should wait until I get my GED, since they made a big deal about me needing one to get into the school. The admissions person kept pushing me to GED test and get it FAST! and I tested and have failed the math portion of the test and just recently took the math portion again. I made it very very clear to her(from the very start) that I don't make enough money to be taking 20$ tests and having no car, makes it extremely hard for me to test. One week before school my main loan from Chase(which was approved twice) was suddenly retracted. The financial aid officer said I had a few smaller loans which would cover 3 classes. 1st day when I started class, which was a week into school, I realized I could not make a 9 am class, because I would have to wake up at about 4am. The admissions person told me "hes such a great teacher etc etc" I talked to the financial aid person about getting a supply kit from school, who looked at that same 9am class, I could not attend to and said "don't worry about it" "were gona get rid of this" as in the class. Because I myself did not drop the 9am class in week one, they want to bill me for it anyway! and it WAS a NO CREDIT CLASS and now is! which means I have to take it if I want to graduate. Now they want me to schedule another GED testing asap, while my math results are not even in! just to play it safe! I asked the admissions person prior to all this "ok, so if I fail , ill be OK and just have to re take GED test again, right" she said yes and never said that If I didn't, I would have financial consequence! She knows I don't make jack squat for money and I have made this extremely clear to her, over and over again! I honestly think it was a quota thing she wanted to meet.! what can I do in this situation! ?who can I talk to outside the school?? I feel the school is going to try and cover its tracks. I am not the only student who was rushed into school.

How many Democrats fit this description? With their attempt to undermine our efforts and our troops efforts I thinnk It's time we started to arrest some Democrats. Section 904. Art. 104. Aiding the enemy Any person who - (1) aids, or attempts to aid, the enemy with arms, ammunition, supplies, money, or other things; or (2) without proper authority, knowingly harbors or protects or gives intelligence to, or communicates or corresponds with or holds any intercourse with the enemy, either directly or indirectly; shall suffer death or such other punishment as a court-martial or military commission may direct. Now--they are giving aid to them by making sure they survive and we leave and continual blackmail to fund the troops. By givign a date of withdrawl that aids the enemy of our troop movements. If this continues...Pelosi may find herself wearing her Burka in the kitchen.

Will aid come to the Midwest knowing how FEMA kept back supplies that Katrina victims could be using? I just saw the warehouses which once held like 85mil in brand new supplies for Katrina victims. Instead of distributing until all were gone, these items sat for 2 years according this CNN. FEMA said it cost them like 1 mill to keep it in storage so they started giving items away to various agencies. They also concluded that the Katrina victims crisis was over. I guess the Midwest crisis should be over once the flooding and tornadoes stop. What about their life's possesions being destroyed and left hungry and homeless after the crisis?

What are your sentiments on a forced entrance in Myanmar to deliver aid? Having a fleet of US ships off the Myanmar coast readied to deliver supplies and medical aid to the over 1 million people affected, how do you feel about a joint UN and US forced entry to assist those affected by the latest cyclone? There is a medical and humanitarian disaster looming and not much can be done unless there is direct action. How would you respond if this was to happen? Thats exactly my feeling Janet I think its necessary because they have a million people that are homeless, a hundred thousand dead of which several thousands are decaying in and near water close to where people reside and it's drawing a potential setting for endemic diseases that will potentially kill more people. I dont think the argument stating "our government can't even help people here in the US that are starving or need medical attention" is a plausible argument. Yes we have our own problems but that doesnt mean we should turn our back on other people who need our assistance. In the post WWII and post Cold War era we became the sole superpower with the ability to care for those who are less fortunate. Since we took on that responsibility, it's immoral to discontinue that responsibility. And I don't "think" they need us, the death toll and the number of which are displaced (1,000,000+ people) says enough as does the lack of support from their own government say they need us.
Foreign Aid - Should the government cut off foreign aid or keep it? I've got a 1 minute speech to present tomorrow on foreign aid, and I need some information (statistics) and persuasive arguments and opinions for me to decide which side I'm on, as well as to help me out along the way of writing it. So, should the US Government continue to supply other nations with foreign aid, or not?
The completion of the Erie Canal in the early 19th century aided the economic development of the United States by... 1) supplying water for the irrigation of western farms 2)lowering the cost of shipping goods from the Midwest to the Atlantic coast 3)providing a shipping route for cotton from the South to Europe 4)supplying waterpower for running factories and mills and During the first half of the 19th century, the construction of canals and roads led to the..? 1) expansion of trade between Midwestern farmers and eastern merchants 2)growth of plantation agriculture in Texas and New Mexico 3)severe economic decline of the South 4)bankruptcy of several railroad companies in the Mississippi Valley

They are not poor like Africa, why do we have to give these nations the top most money? In Africa some people die because of hunger and/or malaria. Israel isn't even favorable in the voting, and it gets the most money, why? Israel is even getting supplied millitarily by the U.S, why is this? That's why the U.S has a high debt, us, the tax payers, aren't getting nothing from this, and we never asked for this, maybe we should mind our own business....
Does my memory aid for CPR help you remember the steps? (note that this is a memory aid, not a CPR class)? CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation when you are hours away from the nearest medical treatment facility) 8.27.2007 The chest compressions are more important than the mouth to mouth; the chest compressing keeps the heart pumping and the blood flowing. The formula is two mouth to mouth breaths about one second long after tilting the head up and making sure the airway is open; then compress the chest with the heel of your hand thirty times in eighteen seconds using a fast and firm motion (let the chest rise after the compression), repeat the sequence. Keep these efforts going until professionals arrive to take over. My problem was remembering how many compressions we are supposed to do in a given length of time. Why did Mexico's military aid, help, and assist Americans after Katrina hurricane in New Orleans, USA ? On August 30, 2005, Mexican President Vicente Fox sent his condolences to President George W. Bush: "In the name of the people and of the government of Mexico, I assure you of my deepest and most sincere condolences for the devastating effects caused by Hurricane Katrina". He also mentioned his instructions to the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs; that the United States would be provided with any kind of help that was needed. On September 1, Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas received almost 196 Mexican troops, 14 truckloads of water, a mobile surgical unit, 45 military vehicles, 3 tons of purified water, and more than 250 tons of food, bottled water, canned food, disposable diapers and medical supplies. The Mexican Government sent $1 million through the Mexican Red Cross which collected an additional million, as well as 200 tons of food delivered in five airplanes from the Mexican Air Force by another Mexican Government body. The Mexican Navy sent two ships, eight all-terrain vehicles, seven amphibious vehicles, two tankers, two helicopters, radio communication equipment, medical personnel Mexican aid workers set up temporary headquarters in the Houston Astrodome to assist relief workers and hurricane victims were very grateful for the aid that the Mexicans provided. The Mexicans provided hot meals to evacuees and relief workers, and Mexican medical teams also deployed into local area hospitals to tend to the influx of evacuees who flooded San Antonio area hospitals. The medical team was three doctors, three dentists, three nurses and three paramedics, conducted 134 medical evaluations, performed 526 medical consultations, provided 363 ambulatory nursing procedures, and medically evacuated 83 personnel during their hurricane relief mission. affected by Katrina, and also offered to cover the costs of returning mexican nationals back to Mexico. Also offered was teams of epidemiologists, to reduce the risks of infections caused by mosquitoes. The Mexican Red Cross sent four rescue experts from the state of Jalisco to assist in rescue efforts in New Orleans. The government of the Mexican Federal District also pledged to help with relief efforts. On September 4 the Mexican Navy offered ships, buses and helicopters to assist in rescue missions. The offer was accepted and the Mexican ship Papaloapan departed from Tampico, with two Mi-17 helicopters, eight all-terrain vehicles, seven amphibious vehicles, two tankers, radio communication equipment, medical personnel and 250 tons of food. Thank you Mexico !
How long to increase milk supply using Lact-aid? My son is 4 1/2 months old and was exclusively Breastfed until 3 months when we both fell ill and i had to supplement with formula. He was having 2 bottles a day but still having morning and afternoon and evening feed on the breast. This was done for a week and on one of those days had formula all day as i was in hospital. My milk supply diminished over night and have had to supplement ever since. I have tried Fenugreek and Blessed thistle but never noticed a huge difference i took it for 2 weeks. Also got a HG pump and pumped after each feeding etc but now have started using a Lact-aid that my Lactation consultant gave me. I am finding its working fantastic but would like to know if anyone else has used them or something similar and how long it has taken to get back to exclusive breastfeeding?? He is having half the amount of formula he was having a week ago so i know its working. Any other tips to increase supply would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance I was "dry" pumping for an hour each time but didnt work. I am now using Lact-aid which is a a wee bag filled with formula, it has a tiny tube that gets taped to the nipple and he feeds from this, so he is all latched on and breastfeeding but getting formula too, does this make sense? Can my boyfriend get a small student loan just for welding school supplies? My boyfriend who is a veteran of the US Army, wants to go back to school to learn how to weld. He is getting his tuition payed for by the US but he doesn't think they will cover the cost of supplies. Apparently welding supplies can cost up to $1,000. We don't have that kind of money to shell out for school right now. We could make monthly payments and pay it off in 6 months or so. Also, we don't know too much about student loans and our options. He is really nervous to talk to financial aid because he doesn't like to admit he can't afford it all off the bat. I am going to make him call next week though for sure, even if I have to dial the number myself! Anyways, does anyone know what our options are? Could he get a small student loan to pay off this amount? OR is there a way to get a credit card to pay this off, even if he has not so good credit? Thank you!!

Anyone seen this story of Hamas seizing aid sent in and selling it to the Palestinian people for profit? A number of reports from the Strip paint a picture of very difficult humanitarian conditions, not least because of Hamas itself. The suspicion is that the group's operatives have seized control of any supplies passing through the crossings – including those sent by Israel and international organizations. Reports say Hamas takes a cut out of all aid that arrives, including flour and medicine. Supplies intended to be distributed without gain among the population is seized by the group and sold to the residents, at a profit to the Hamas government. http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-3651783,00.html A number of reports from the Strip paint a picture of very difficult humanitarian conditions, not least because of Hamas itself. Financial Aid Help? I was told that pell grant is not available to students who received a bachelor's degree already. This means that because I have a B.A. degree I can't get pell grant for a second baccalaureate. However, I was informed that New York State Aid is ONLY available if I am otherwise eligible based on income and other criteria and have NOT used up all semesters of New York State Aid eligibility on my first B.A. degree. Questions: 1. How can I tell if I am eligible to receive New York State Aid to help me cover tuition cost for classes, books and other school-related supplies? 2. Whom should I contact to see whether or not I have used up all the New York State Aid for my first B.A. degree? Thank You.
Can I get more financial aid for beauty school? I am kind of new to college and the whole FA thing. I started going to college last summer. I had no idea what I was doing.. I got a $1,000 check in the mail and i seriously spent it all (on bills). I knew I had to pay it back but it was left overs from the summer semester. Then I get $1700 check in the mail and buy a new computer and school supplies with it. Then I get more financial aid for fall 2008, and It was mostly all used on school credits. I still have $1750 yet to be disbursed but I don't want to go to community college anymore. I decided nursing wasn't for me (i am doing pre-reqs).. and I want to go to cosmotology school which costs $14k I filled out a fafsa. But now I am already 5k in the hole with subsidized student loans and I haven't even been in school for a year. So this probably sounds complicated. But basically... can I get more money go to cosmetology school? I had no idea how financial aid works and I didn't know there was a 'cap'. Now obviously I regret spending those checks on bills and my car payment. Which I had saved it for school. I am so stupid. I wish they never sent me the stupid checks and just kept it in my account! But it's my fault for not knowing better. I am just worried I have no more financial aid left?? Who can I talk to? I get mail from us bank but emails from sallie mae. How can I get a 14k loan? Can it be subsidized?

Is the Burma Dictatorship's Refusal of Aid Similar to the Bush Regime's Refusal to Accept Aid for Katrina? When Hurricane Katrina ripped through the southern United States in August 2005, the authorities were overwhelmed and the governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, appealed to the international community for emergency medical aid. The Cuban government immediately offered assistance to New Orleans and to the states of Mississippi and Alabama, also affected by the storm, and promised that within 48 hours 1,600 doctors, trained to deal with such catastrophes, would arrive with all the necessary equipment plus 36 tonnes of medical supplies. This offer, and another made directly to President George Bush, went unanswered. In the catastrophe at least 1,800 people, most of them poor, died for lack of aid and treatment.
Have you heard about the big earthquake that has devastated mexico? America is sending aid.? California, The Earthquake Yesterday A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale has hit Mexico. Two million Mexicans have died and over a million are injured. The country is totally ruined and the government doesn't know where to start with providing help to rebuild. The rest of the world is in shock. Canada is sending troops to help the Mexican army control the riots. Saudi Arabia is sending oil. Other Latin American countries are sending supplies. The European community (except France) is sending food and money. The United States, not to be outdone, is sending two million replacement Mexicans. God Bless America!
1. The National Efficiency Office has done a study of local government offices, which carefully examined the ? costs in money and labor required to maintain a small office. It was found that every hour an office is open requires $12 to pay the clerical staff, and 12 minutes of labor devoted to paperwork (tallying timesheets, filling out grievance forms, etc.). Also, every $100 in the budget requires 30 minutes of paperwork (expenditure authorization forms, miscellaneous red tape), and 30% of the budget is wasted on office supplies, coffee, donuts, and embezzlement. The Efficiency Office also reported on the money and time demands of certain types of offices. A local legal aid office needs 30 hours/week in surplus labor (after subtracting the overhead described above) and $1500/week in surplus budget (ditto). A local Environmental Protection office needs a surplus of 20 hours and $700 per week. A local Y2k office needs a surplus of 80 hours and $3000 per week. Use Leontief theory and an inverse matrix to determine the money and time that must be scheduled for the above 3 kinds of office to meet their needs.
Financial Aid In Complicated Situation? I'm 25y.o and my husband has his school loan of $30000 he is paying back every month. He has absolutely zero saving but going back to school from next year to make himself valuale in the marketing so started to save money recently. His annual imcome is $50000 but 1/3 of his pay is taken for tax so he gets $2700 every month into his pocket. He pays *$1000 for rent and utilities/bills *$500 for loan *$250 for savings for next schooling And almost all of remains($950) will be gone for food/ daily supplies/ transportations fee/ books for his job/ activities which leaves him nothing after all. I've never been supported by him financially but since I'm married, my husband's imcome will be the subject to be determined how much support will I get from FAFSA. My question is, is there any way to proof FAFSA that I have never depended on his finance nor will he ever help me out financially which puts me so hard situation to go to school? I really need a help for this matter. You are right. It is considered that he is my sponsor though he doesn't help me out at all. But being helped financially wasn't the reason why I married to him. When I married to him, I even wasn't planning to go back to school but after finiding a job for a while, I had to face the reality or the gap between people who went to college and people who didn't. He is trying to pull himself up from water so am I. He doesn't want to not to help me out but he just doesn't have money to help me out before he put himself in the position where he can relax. We are not legally separated. He is going back to school from the fall of 2008 which is the next cycle.
Want to help send medical supplies into Gaza? A wonderful group of Jewish, Muslim & Christian doctors and health care workers in Israel are sending aid into Gaza almost daily. http://www.phr.org.il/phr/article.asp?articleid=686&catid=55&pcat=-1&lang=ENG They are asking for donations to help buy more hospital and surgical supplies as well as medicines. Please see their website for details or email me. They have now sent 4 convoys of medical supplies to hospitals in Gaza. There is a way to do it online but they ask that you understand that the CC company takes 6% or you can add 6% to the amount you want to send. You're very welcome. If you go the NIF route, be sure to specify that its for the PHR-I Gaza fund. Thank YOU for responding. Interesting how few people have....

How do I adjust the volume for speakers themselves? I have 5 speakers hooked up to 2 1/4 stereo plugs and those two plugs are connected to a Y adapter, which is then going into my laptop/ipod. It seems like my ipod and laptop don't supply enough volume for the speakers to be worth setting up. Is there any manual adapter or other way I can manually adjust the volume of the speakers with aid to the volume control of my ipod and laptop?

How do I raise awareness about the tragic food situation in Darfur? The World Food Program announced in late April that it was going to have to cut the food rations given to the Almost 3 million people depend on this food in half. This is because it only has gotten one third of the needed to feed the people of Sudan. So it cut the individual food supply from the necessary 2,100 calories a day to 1,050 calories for the refugees who have already suffered from the Janjaweed militias, will suffer even more, because some countries are many more times concerned with improving their military to destroy life, than to save it. The US is contributing far more than other nations, and Bush wants to send $225m more in aid, added to the 180 million already sent. 4.5m, from Libya was the next largest contribution. How do I, as an American citizen, encourage other nations to contribute more to the inadequately funded World Food Program?
Israelis say Hamas not responsible for latest attacks, so why are using the excuse to bomb Gaza? This is from the Brits: Dailytelegraph.com Hamas 'not responsible' for recent rocket attacks, says Israel Hamas fighters have not launched the most recent rocket attacks from inside Gaza and the movement may be edging towards a ceasefire agreement, according to Israeli security officials. By David Blair in Jerusalem Last Updated: 4:36PM GMT 06 Feb 2009 Israel declared a unilateral ceasefire on Jan 18 after fighting a 22-day war in Gaza which claimed about 1,300 lives. The aim was to stop Palestinian guerrillas from bombarding southern Israel – but at least 40 rockets and mortar bombs have been fired since the operation ended, with two exploding yesterday morning. However, an Israeli security official acquitted Hamas of responsibility for the most recent attacks. "Our intelligence says it's not them," he said. Instead, other groups, notably Islamic Jihad, the Popular Resistance Committees and fighters linked to the supposedly moderate Fatah movement are thought to have launched these strikes. Israeli officials disagree over whether Hamas, which still controls Gaza's government, is capable of stopping the attacks. Another senior official said that at present, with its organisation shattered by Israel's offensive, Hamas was probably unable to prevent other groups from firing rockets. Egypt's government has been meeting Hamas leaders and Israeli officials to conclude a formal ceasefire agreement. A Hamas delegation left Cairo on Thursday with a draft deal. The key sticking point is over Gaza's border crossings, which Israel has closed to everything apart from essential aid supplies. Israel says this will not change unless Hamas frees Gilad Shalit, a soldier captured in 2006. If, however, Israel resumes its operation in Gaza, a senior official said that the options had narrowed. A full scale reoccupation of the territory may then take place, toppling the Hamas regime. Hamas know that losing Gaza would be a "disaster", said the official. This threat may force them towards concluding a ceasefire. Hamas has hinted that it might agree an 18-month truce.
My thoughts of the world and how it operates and what can be done to better the lives of billions of people? sell all the mansions that rich people have. make them live in apartments so they can give money back to the world and sell all their bling bling. i think some rappers have like 1 million dollars on one little finger that could be used to build homes for a few people. Bill Gates has like 55 billion? wtf do you do with all that money? the world should have a set limit on home much money you should be able to have based on the size of your family. all exceeded family salary allowances should be put into a fund that goes towards research for medical advances to stop the illnesses that kill millions of people, space exploration to find possible other unknown sources of energy in the universe. developing better trade routes for food, supplies, and other items some countries cannot produce. start building cities in the sky to help the overpopulated countries to have the opportunity co-exist with developed nations to better their education and quality of life. With the education comes more advanced technology that will revolutionize the world and make surving the next couple of centuries possible. with the technology comes ways to cut down on pollution, crime, deaths, healthcare, the list goes on. the countries that are developed and have resources needed to diminish the military and have the millions have men and women fighting each other from countries around the world turned into one force that will work together to find ways to aid those who are in need. the force could be used to for a number of things including building new cities, farms, non-hazordous energy plants that transform air and water into massive energy banks that can be stored underground below cities or in a elevated storage facility that is hovering over a city to be used as a power source for large scale cities. i could go on, but the world isn't ready for this kind of large scale change, it is to busy fighting wars over land, power, natural resources, and who has a bigger budget. i can only hope that one day we can live together in peace and work together to improve our lives and our neighbooring peoples lives.
Survivor fans: 6 adults, 1 fallout-type disaster shelter (400 sq ft), 365 days. Suggestions? Working on story idea. Figuring on minimal time out of shelter (maybe 2 hrs/day max) after first month, so cabin fever's going to be an issue over time. All in good health overall; fully stocked food/first aid supplies. There's good ventilation and self-powered lighting/heating/cooking system. They CANNOT spend all their time having sex, btw; let's be reasonable!---and I'm not expecting them to be battling off zombies and pillagers. Ideas about what would be a good mix of adults _just to get through the year of confinement together_ and what challenges they're going to face, living so closely? ("Let's KILL the karaoke singer.....slowly.....") Or things that should/shouldn't be in the shelter, and why? This is for a short story or novel, NOT for a television or movie (shudder).
Is this food good for hamsters? It's mouse and rat formula but i compared it's crude fiber etc. to other hamster foods and it seems better, will it supply everything a hamster needs? http://www.kaytee.com/products/mammals/?pid=31910&aid=all&pcid=1 read, write, laugh, live I previously fed my hamster fiesta, and my vet told me it was high in sugar because of all of the seeds and lacked protein and vitamins because there were few pellets.
How to survive a zombie attack.......? I've asked this question before but not allot of people put enough effort in their answers. Also I've changed my plan on how to survive an attack. Also, for the person who said last time that the military would take care of it..... remember Dawn of the Dead? The police and military tried to help shelter and protect infected and non-infected people. I've read some books about zombie survival and this is what I've came up with: 1. Find the nearest shelter ( not your car) 2. Find any fire arms or other weapons ( Do not use a chain saw, it attracts zombies because of the noise and it relies on gas. 3. Fortify your current position. 4. Find a radio or T.V for information. 5. Try to stick with a group ( That are not infected.) 6. Quarantine bitten or infected members of the party( keep a constant watch on them.) 7. Find any useful supplies. (Food, Water, First Aid.) Yes I do have a life, I just read it for fun. I am also very interested in what some of you would do in this situation that might seem very unlikely.
Do you know any Emergency Care Tips For Your Pet? # Emergency Care Tips For Your Pet This is not intended as a substitute for expert veterinary care. Ask your own veterinarian clinic if they hold pet first-aid classes for owners. Many are now doing this, sometimes in partnership with other clinics in their area. Heat Stroke, Hyperthermia Pets cannot tolerate high temperatures as well as people can and they rely on rapid breathing to exchange hot air for cool air. Pets' temperatures are higher than ours -- a dog and cat have an average temperature of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Common situations and features that can predispose a pet to overheating: 1. Being left in a car in warm weather, even if the windows are left slightly open. 2. Having a muzzle on while a pet is being groomed, and/or leaving the muzzle on while a pet is put in a drying cage. 3. Short-nosed breeds such as pugs, bulldogs, boxers and Persian cats. 4. Any pet with an airway disease. 5. Being confined outside without shade or an adequate supply of fresh water. Suggested treatment when this condition occurs: 1. Mild Hyperthermia can sometimes be treated by simply removing a pet from the situation and/or environment where overheating has occurred, and placing it in a cool place in the shade or in an air-conditioned room. 2. If a pet is unsteady on its feet and you have moved it to a cooler location, you can start cooling it by placing cool water on the feet. Rubbing alcohol on the skin of your pet's stomach (with a fan blowing on the pet) can also aid in cooling. 3. While these steps are in progress, have someone call your veterinarian so that they can determine if you should bring your pet in for treatment. Note: it is very dangerous to cool an overheated pet too quickly. Never put a pet in an ice bath, or use ice cold water, unless under the direct supervision of your veterinarian. Cool water is best. The most common sign of hyperthermia is restlessness and agitation, with vigorous panting. A pet's saliva may be thick, and the gums and tongue may be bright red. Depending on the severity of the hyperthermia, the gums can also be very pale and a pet may be lying down with its head, neck, and limbs extended and thick saliva coming from the mouth and nose. Always call your veterinarian, even if the pet appears to have recovered from hyperthermia, after you have administered any of the treatments above. Your veterinarian may not want to see your pet if it has recovered, but it is always best for them to determine whether or not your pet needs to be examined. Choking Choking is caused by a foreign object being lodged in the pet's airway and adding pressure to the trachea or windpipe. To avoid a choking incident, always provide your pet with toys that are the appropriate size. Toys that are too small (relative to your pet's size) can be easily swallowed and become wedged in your pet's airway. It's important to provide supervision when an edible treat is being chewed. Some treats that dogs enjoy, such as rawhide, cow hooves, and pig ears, can break off in pieces and may not be small enough for your pet to swallow completely. Always remove strings, foil, and feathers from cat toys -- these items can be enjoyable to your cat but may potentially become caught in its throat or intestinal tract. Indications of choking: 1. Noisy and labored breathing sounds – your pet will have difficulty inhaling 2. Pawing at the nose and mouth 3. Gums may be white or blue 4. Excessive drooling 5. Unconsciousness Determine if your pet's airway is able to be cleared by performing a finger swipe of the mouth -- this is accomplished by placing your finger on the side of the pet's mouth and sliding it down and toward the center of the throat. If no foreign object or substance is removed and your pet is still having breathing difficulties, contact your veterinarian for immediate instructions and care. Do not try and perform CPR or the Heimlich method unless instructed by your veterinarian. Bleeding A physical trauma can cause pets to suffer blood loss. Regardless of what caused the trauma to your pet, immediate attention to blood loss is required. Pressure: Apply gentle pressure to the bleeding; do not remove a cloth or bandage even if it becomes saturated, simply apply additional layers. The bandage can be held in place by bandage material if you need to free your hands. Elevation can be used to aid in stopping the bleeding, but try to continue applying direct pressure to the wound. Try to keep your pet calm, and contact your veterinarian immediately, or if the situation warrants it, begin transporting your pet to the veterinarian while controlling the bleeding. Tourniquet: The use of tourniquets can be dangerous and cause damage to the limb if applied incorrectly. A tourniquet should only be used if the pet is experiencing a life threatening situation, due to the amount of blood loss that is occurring from a limb or tail. How to Move and Transport an Injured Pet An injured pet is unpredictable, regardless of its personality. When pets are in pain, they react instinctively and unpredictably and cannot be held responsible for their actions. Always take precautions to protect yourself, and your pet, from further injury when transporting to the veterinarian. An emergency muzzle' can be made from a neck tie, silk stocking, a section of linen fabric, or other strong material. Using the middle of the material, make a loop and place it around your pet's muzzle. Bring the ends under the chin and tie snuggly around the back of the head under the ears. If your pet is unable to walk, or you have determined that walking may cause further injury or damage, a blanket can be used as a transport device. Gently lift the pet onto the blanket, and grip the edges of the blanket to lift and place the pet in the vehicle. Covering your pet is important to prevent heat loss and can create a calming effect. Smaller pets can be transported in a carrier or a box (with holes large enough for air to allow for adequate breathing) with a lid. Try to minimize the amount of movement, and make your pet as comfortable as possible. Always try to contact your veterinarian, in advance, to share as many details as possible, and the estimated time that you will arrive at the clinic. Snake Bites The first thing you must do if you think your pet has been bitten by a snake is to stay calm. Do not add any additional excitement to the situation. Your pet will need to be examined to determine if and where the snake bite occurred, and there may be more than one location, so examine carefully. A constrictive bandage can be placed on the limb involved, above the bite. A bandage will need to fit firmly on the leg, but not too tightly. If possible, try to identify the snake – you should attempt to determine the size, color, the shape of the head, and if there was a rattle at the end of the snake's tail. Do not risk injury to yourself in attempting to get this information. Carry the pet to the vehicle or, if too large to carry, walk it slowly to your vehicle and go to the nearest veterinary hospital. (This may not be the hospital that you regularly use, but immediate care is required for a snake bite.) In the meantime, keep your pet as calm as possible. Contact your veterinarian if you think a snake bite may have occurred, but you are unable to find the fang marks. Your veterinarian may want to examine your pet to insure a bite mark was not accidentally overlooked. Spider Bites Veterinary treatment is required for any spider bite. Unfortunately, you will probably not know when your pet has received a spider bite. Spider bites can be painless when they occur. What you may see is a patch of skin where the hair has thinned; there may be a single hole visible, with skin discoloration around the hole. The skin may be a dark purple or black in color. There might be lameness in the limb other than where the bite occurred, as well as fever and chills. Spider bites can be life threatening to you and your pets. Research the area you live to determine which poisonous spiders are prevalent, and always examine the areas where spiders like to build nests. Contact an exterminator to remove spiders from your home. When California DOES eventually have the BIG earthquake as predicted, how will that affect the rest of the US? Everyone knows the BIG earthquake has yet to happen and noone knows exactly when. Experts all say that it WILL happen eventually. Suppose it happens in one or two months: how will that affect the United States economy? the hospital industry, first aid and the blood supply? Suppose 1/4 of California suffers huge tragedies from this and 1,000,000+ are killed or hurt....what will the affect be on the rest of the United States? What countries (if any) will offer assistance to the United States in repair work, financial, and first aid assistance?
How Do You Feel About "Enemies" Donations Being Rejected In Wake Of Tragedies? Many of our country's "enemies" have offered help to us in wake of tragic events; most of their offers refused. In Hurricane Katrina, Cuba was one of the first nations to respond and offered to send doctors, tons of medicinal supplies, and money. The US Government declined and told Cuba "no". Now say what you want about political differences but if help is offered immiediately it really doesn't matter who it is coming from and you are declining the supplies offered to the people who need it. Also in Hurricane Katrina assistance from France was at first rejected but we later on accepted their aid. On 9/11 Mayor Guiliani would not accept a 1 million dollar donation from Saudi Arabia. How do you feel about our government declining the aid of our "enemies". I use "enemies" in quotes because I don't regard Cuba and France as threats to us. It is a way to mend relations with our nations; to work together in wake of tragedies. A step towards making progress during these wars.

Are we really as selfish as we all say we are? Often people today will be pessimistic about modern society and government. We all moan about society going downhill, people being selfish, cold, uncaring and only caring for themselves in all aspects of life, we all complain about 'the corporations' and their evils, 'raping' the world for its resources and us 'consumers' (I hate that term) for our money, and stopping at nothing to obtain more wealth. Well, events like the earthquake in Haiti, in my opinion, really bring out the good nature that we must all have in us somewhere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Haiti_earthquake "Peruvian companies are proving food donations and other basic aid" "The Argentine Air Force field mobile hospital, already deployed at Port-au-Prince, was the only medical facility still open" "The U.S. Army's 1st Battalion, 73rd Infantry from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, has been scheduled to deploy Friday along with the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson" "At least 19 countries, including Canada, the United States, Mexico, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland, China, Spain, the United Kingdom, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Brazil pledged manpower, supplies or financial aid to Haiti" Now you may say that most of this is from governments (spending OUR TAX MONEY SHOCK HORROR!), but governments are of course under no obligation to send aid. I don't believe that aid is a simple vote winner, either, although it will possibly damage a governments reputation if it does not give aid. However it should be noticed that only a few of the advanced economies of the world are giving aid to Haiti, and those that aren't are not being internationally (or domestically) criticised. Should we really be so pessimistic about our modern world? And it is both genders who are receiving aid. The only discrimination I think that is taking place is probably to do with pregnant women receiving priority treatment :) The pregnant women thing was just a joke relevant to the attitude of this section

which of the following was a major reason the united states exchanged neutrality for war in 1917? 1. americans felt it was their duty to come to the aid of the central powers, who were being badly beaten. 2. the germans had taken over a vital trade route between britain and the united states. 3. the germans massacred the entire population of the major british city, including civilians. 4. the germans used their submarines to attack ships carrying american citizens and supplies to the allies.
The region of least economic growth during the eighteenth century was? 1) The Mid-Atlantic colonies 2) New England 3) the Chesapeake 4) New York They way I am reading it, the mid-Atlantic colonies and the Chesepeake produced grains, and corn for long term growth and food supplies to various other places. What I am seeing for this answer is New York had a slow growth. Can someone aid me with this please?

I forgot to add wipes and diapers to the 2nd suitcse.
Myanmar junta hands out aid boxes with generals' names. Your thoughts? 42 minutes ago YANGON, Myanmar - Myanmar's military regime distributed international aid Saturday but plastered the boxes with the names of top generals in an apparent effort to turn the relief effort for last week's devastating cyclone into a propaganda exercise. The United Nations sent in three more planes and several trucks loaded with aid, though the junta took over its first two shipments. The government agreed to let a U.S. cargo plane bring in supplies Monday, but foreign disaster experts still were being barred entry. Despite international appeals to postpone a referendum on a controversial proposed constitution, voting began Saturday in all but the hardest hit parts of the country. With voters going to the polls, state-run television continuously ran images of top generals including junta leader, Senior Gen. Than Shwe, handing out boxes of aid at elaborate ceremonies. "We have already seen regional commanders putting their names on the side of aid shipments from Asia, saying this was a gift from them and then distributing it in their region," said Mark Farmaner, director of Burma Campaign UK, which campaigns for human rights and democracy in the country. "It is not going to areas where it is most in need," he said in London. State media say 23,335 people died and 37,019 are missing from Cyclone Nargis, which submerged entire villages in the Irrawaddy delta. International aid organizations say the death toll could climb to more than 100,000 as conditions worsen. The U.N. estimated that 1.5 million to 2 million people have been severely affected and has voiced concern about the disposal of bodies. With phone lines down, roads blocked and electricity networks destroyed, it is nearly impossible to reach isolated areas in the delta, complicated by the lack of experienced international aid workers and equipment. The junta has refused to grant access to foreign experts, saying it will only accept donations from foreign charities and governments, and then will deliver the aid on its own. Despite such obstacles, the U.N. refugee agency sent its first aid convoy by land into Myanmar on Saturday and began airlifting a 110 tons of shelter supplies from its warehouse in Dubai, it said. Two trucks carrying more than 20 tons of tents and plastic sheets for some 10,000 cyclone victims crossed into the country from northwestern Thailand, said the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. "This convoy marks a positive step in an aid effort so far marked by challenges and constraints," said Raymond Hall, UNHCRs Representative in Thailand. "We hope it opens up a possible corridor to allow more international aid to reach the cyclone victims." A total of 23 international agencies were providing aid to people in the devastated areas, said Elisabeth Byrs, spokeswoman for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. But a large number of organizations still were awaiting government clearance for more aid shipments, staff and transport. "It's a race against the clock," Byrs said. "If the humanitarian aid does not get into the country on a larger scale, there's the risk of a second catastrophe," she said, adding that people could die from hunger and diseases. Health experts have warned there was a great risk of diarrhea and cholera spreading because of the lack of clean drinking water and sanitation. Farmaner suggested that aid be delivered to the country, also known as Burma, even if the regime does not give its permission. "We have had a week to convince the regime to behave reasonably, and they are still blocking aid," he said. "So the international community needs to wake up and take bolder steps." However, aid providers are unlikely to pursue unilateral deliveries like airdrops because of the diplomatic firestorm that it could set off. So far, relief workers have reached 220,000 cyclone victims, only a small fraction of the number of people affected, the Red Cross said Friday. Three Red Cross aid flights loaded with shelter kits and other emergency supplies landed Friday without incident. The international Red Cross sent 31 tons of relief goods from Geneva Friday evening, including pumps, generators, water tanks and other water treatment equipment, as well as basic health care for about 10,000 people and surgery material, according to spokesman Marcal Izard. The shipment was designated for those in labor camps and prisons, he said. He said the agency planned to distribute the aid in coordination with the Myanmar Red Cross, which is the leading relief agency in Myanmar. The government seized two planeloads of high-energy biscuits — enough to feed 95,000 people — sent by the U.N. World Food Program. Despite the seizure, the WFP was sending three more planes Saturday from Dubai, Cambodia and Italy, even though those could be confiscated, too. "We are working around the clock with the authorities to ensure the kind of access that we need to ensure it goes to people that need it most," WFP spokesman Marcus Prior said in Bangkok, Thailand. Richard Horsey, a spokesman for U.N. humanitarian operations, said an international presence is needed in Myanmar to look at the logistics of getting boats, helicopters and trucks into the delta area. "That's a critical bottleneck that must be overcome at this point," he said in Bangkok. Heavy rain forecast in the next week was certain to exacerbate the misery. Diplomats and aid groups warned the number of dead could eventually exceed 100,000 because of illnesses and said thousands of children may have been orphaned. Survivors from one of the worst-affected areas, near the town of Bogalay, were among those fighting hunger, illness and wrenching loneliness. "All my 28 family members have died," said Thein Myint, a 68-year-old fisherman who wept while describing how the cyclone swept away the rest of his family. "I am the only survivor." Officials have said only one out of 10 people who are homeless, injured or threatened by disease and hunger have received some kind of aid since the cyclone hit May 3. The government's abilities are limited. It has only a few dozen helicopters, most of which are small and old. It also has about 15 transport planes, primarily small jets unable to carry hundreds of tons of supplies. "Not only don't they have the capacity to deliver assistance, they don't have experience," said Farmaner, the British aid worker. "It's already too late for many people. Every day of delays is costing thousands of lives." I know this is a lengthy article but it's worth the read. We sometimes complain about our government here in the States. At least we're not ran by a military junta or military dictatorship. Myanmar's Junta are no better than crimminals.
Haiti Aid Versus China Aid? I have been doing some research on how much financial aid has been given in response to the earthquake in Haiti in comparison to how much was donated in the Chinese earthquake in the Sichuan province in 2008. Mainly I have been comparing the amount of aid that the United States, my country, has given. In the case of the Chinese earthquake, the United States gave $500,000 plus $850,000 in supplies. This totals less than a million and a half dollars in aid from what many consider to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world. In all fairness, though, China is also one of the wealthiest countries. That didn't stop Germany and many other countries from donating millions of dollars (31 million just from Germany). Then we look at how much America has aided Haiti already. President Obama, as soon as possible, promised $100 million. Then you add all of the other things America is sending down there...and it amounts to a lot more than that. Haiti, I am very much aware, is one of the poorest countries in the world and their capitol city of Port-au-Prince is essentially wiped out. But can anyone else explain to me why America only gave 1.5 million to the Sichuan earthquake and so much to the Haiti one? It just seems...a little unfair to me, to be honest. America, I believe, is known to be kind of like the big brother country to countries like Haiti, but that doesn't mean we should skip out on helping countries like China, does it?
What do you keep in your "emergency, end of the world" supplies, are you prepared "just in case"? I put this hear because an implosion of government is the only thing I can think of that would force one to be completely self reliant for a year, natural disaster would only leave people cut off for a few hours or days at the most This is a real question so don't put, "an ounce of P91 and a case of Coors" What do you have as your emergency back up as in the way of food, water, self defence, shelter... I live in a gated community on a golf course in So Cal, everyone I know keeps an "Earth quake kit" with food, water, communication, hygiene.... I keep on hand at all times enough food for 4 people for 1 year at 1800-2200 calories a day, every year I donate my food supply to a homeless shelter and restock so nothing I have is more than a year old I also keep 100 gallons of water, water purification systems, bleach, first aid including all the basic meds, also keep 100+ gallons of gasoline which the gardener uses for the lawn mower then I replace with new fuel so I always have a fresh supply, a few grand in cash a few ounces of gold and silver, CB and AM/FM radios with batteries, flashlights, I have a generator that I run for an hour or so every month, dog food for my English Bulldog and most any type of medication he might need, I shoot for recreation and collect every type of weapon so I have 30+ firearms with a few set aside for self defence purposes each with 1K+ rounds of ammo, survival and medical books, rope, GPS's signaling devices, fire starting sticks matches....and just about everything else I could every think anyone would need if society fell apart and everyone where left to their own means without any outside help and people became desperate...like to the point that they will kill you for your food So I am just curious how well supplied those outside of my neighborhood paradise are, I know that in my area most people have taken the time to be prepared, we had massive fires in our area a few years back and the local Churches and schools were literally overflowing with donated supplies that people had on hand but I also know that there are people who don't plan ahead and/or think the government should take care all their needs "Katrina-New Orleans" is a great example of the dangers of ignorance and lack of planning ahead its not like all this stuff just sits around, I use some of it for camping, power outages etc. total I doubt I have more than $25K invested, heck I have $75K in tools just to fill up my tool chest and work shop I really doubt the implosion of government will cause 90%+ of people to die guess no one can give an answer so I guess I will be defending myself and family against you folks when your starving...don't worry I am a competitive shooter so it will be a clean shot as long as you hold still
Practically speaking: How much use is the "Aid" sent by a US Faith based group to starving & injured Haitians? who have no access to food, water, medical supplies or shelter? If you are a Christian answering this...could you tell me if you approve of the donation? Did your church group send Aid to Haiti...and what type of Aid did they send? http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2010/01/us-faith-group-sends-hundreds-of-solar-powered-bibles-to-haiti/1 (((Bopped))) (((Cricket))) Why is it always the usual suspects who have both reason and compassion mixed with their faith?
Writing parametric equations for the path of a falling object? "An airplane flying at an altitude of 3600 feet is dropping aid supplies. The path of the plane is parallel to the ground at the time the supplies are released and the plane is travelling at a speed of 330 mph. 5280 feet = 1 mile. SO the first question asks "Write parametric equations that represent the path of the supplies". I am only given parametric equation formulas for the path of a projectile, and I'm not sure if this is a projectile... x = t |v| cosx y = t |v| sin x + 0.5 at^2 Where v = initial velocity of magnitutde and a vector. I think the drop is half of a projectile, but how can I find out the angle of launching? Thanks Then what is the horizontal distance travelled?
Do I have the right types of food/items for an Emergency.? I've read about storing food for emergencies. For example if there was a nuclear terrorist attack in a few major US cities and society broke down for a few years. I'm not planning for my town getting nuked, if that happens then I'm not stupid, I know I'd need to leave if possible. But if something bad happens, I'd like to be ready. I've purchased rice, beans, canned food (veggies and fruit), pasta, dried milk, vitamin pills (Centrum), first aid supplies (motrin, bandages, creams, etc), and a few other things. I have lots of water stored (with bleach to purify the water if I have to, also brita filters, also cooking fuel to boil water). I think storing food is smarter than growing a garden because people will just steal the veggies at night and/or it's hard to wait long enough for the food (I live in the suburbs, not in the middle of nowhere). Plus you can't live off of hunting because the books I read say that within 1 month most unprepared people will have shot the majority of animals. So I hope nothing happens, but I want to provide for my family. I don't want them to starve if society breaks down for a year or so. What do you think? Am I missing anything? I've only spent a few hundred dollars so far andI have enough for about 3 months. So I don't have a huge stockpile, just a few tupperware tubs worth of stuff. Thanks for the input thus far. I have magnesium flint strikers, water purification tablets, sterno, etc. I have also taking cpr classes... I rotate my food and water every 6 months. I did a caloric inventory and I have enough food for 8 months (I'm surprised) for 2 people to live off of assuming they can live off of 1400 calories a day and not get tired of eating roughly 8 different types of food! On a side note I just read that the UAE is buying a 3 month stockpile of food for its citizens.
Do you think it is right that humanitarian aid for Hurricane katrina was denied? For example, Cuba offered to send 1,586 doctors and and at least 26 tons of supplies and equipment, but it was never used. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/09/05/katrina.cuba/ It's said that people have to make everything about politics in times that truly matter, where people need help. Allied countries offered $854 million in cash and in oil that was to be sold for cash. But ONLY $40 million has been used. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/09/05/katrina.cuba/
Financial aid - disbursement question? So I've been having issues with TAP and Pell, but now I already got everything covered. TAP paid for my tuition, which is 2300 dollars and the rest from Pell I will be receiving 1500 dollars. The thing is, when my counselor finally resolved my Pell issue, it's already the end of the Fall 2009 semester, (she verified it on january 8th). She said I will get the money in 2-3 weeks. Well I received a letter today saying 'This letter is to advise you that on 1/27/09 a book check disbursement will be issued to you.." I'm a little bit weirded out when I saw this because doesn't 'book check disbursement' sound like a pocket change to you? Well it says .. "The book check disbursement should be used to purchase your books and/or supplies for the spring 2010 semester". So I'm a little bit worried that I'm not going to get a full 1,500 dollars (my brother got a full 1,800 dollars from TAP). Well I guess I'm going to, but that 'book check disbursement' makes me a little bit anxious inside. So my question is, can a 'book check disbursement' be more than 1 thousand dollars? Thank you so much!
Should I quit my job? I'm a tutor and I absolutely love my job. I've been creating comprehensive lesson plans, buying my own visual aids and supplies, and bonding with my students. I've seen them improve so much. On Friday I was told that what I was doing wasn't the aim of the program, and that I'm not supposed to teach m kids (1st graders) anything along the lines of reading, writing or spelling... I'm just suppose to foster critical thinking I guess. They just want me to 'get the kids talking about ideas, putting them into words.' I am supposed to make them write in their journals and ESL workbooks (English is there second language but they're all quite fluent) but I am not allowed to correct them or give them constructive criticism. I'm not allowed to tell them if they're doing stuff wrong, basically. I'm just supposed to stand there like a drone and nod mindlessly. I feel like I'd be making my kids regress as they've improved so much and are now spelling some words with ease, using their resources to figure out how to spell things, and sounding out words... before we started they would just guess what something said when they saw it, but now they actually sound things out. They've been doing great but apparently it's all wrong. I am opposed to this style of teaching, I don't want to be a yes-man. I realize I'm not a teacher, but tutors are supposed to help you improve, not only encourage effort without providing a helping hand. I plan on majoring in English Education and while this was certainly a learning experience, I don't feel I'd be comfortable going along with this. My kids are always asking me if they spelled things right, how to spell things, if they're doing they're worksheets correctly... what am I supposed to say to them, no, sorry, I can't tell you how to spell that word? I don't know what to do.
financial aid refund? At the college I attend they have it set-up this way: 2 weeks before classes start you are able to access your financial aid in the bookstore at college to buy their way overpriced textbooks and school supplies. You cannot transfer the money out or anything- you can only use it in the bookstore- there is no other way to have access to it. then 3 weeks after the semester has started, they issue checks with your financial aid refunds. This is really irritating me, and I am wondering if ALL colleges do this? I am so sick of being forced to purchase from their bookstore- I'm a single mom and don't make enough to buy my supplies/textbooks out of my own pocket and just wait for my refund.. and by the time we get the refund it's 3 weeks into the semester- far too long to go without a textbook (I could go to other bookstores in the area where their prices are right around 50% less). This is very frustrating to me! For example for my summer classes- they are short- 7 week classes, and we don't get our refund checks until 1/2 way through the session! Maybe that's what it is- something that community college's do, because it is a community college. And yes, I know for a fact that is what they do- it's not something that is only happening to me.
Persuasive Speech:: Visual Aid? I have to give a persuasive speech on donating blood and joining the American Red Cross in my communications class. My teacher is making us use a visual aid and it HAS to be a poster board. I have been searching for almost a week and am completely stumped on what to do. 1. I wanted to show to dwindling blood supply in America, persuading my audience that their donation is needed, however I can not find any facts or data to help me with drawing my line/bar graph.I have searched the ENTIRE American Red cross give live website, the cdc website, and so forth and have failed. Please help, whether you know of where I can find the information I'm looking for or if you have another visual aid idea that could come in use for my presentation. I would really appreciate it!

NEED HELP ON FINANCIAL AID APPEAL PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Letter 1 To Financial Aid Committee: My name is .My major is Engineering. 2009-2010 First year of college was very challenging to me yet I was still wasn't ready for the courses that I chose. My goal was to obtain an A.A Degree to transfer to a 4 year institute to obtain a B.A Degree. My educational goal was to be majoring in Engineering. In Fall 2009 I chose courses I have since realized were too difficult for a first-time student and I became overwhelmed. Having had no prior experience with college-level life, courses, and exams. I was not sure what to expect and learned that my study techniques lacking, resulting in poor grades. I also failed to attend the review sessions, did not seek assistance from my professor or tutoring help, and as a result I failed my courses. Due to these circumstances I have been rendered ineligible to receive financial aid. Without financial aid I will be unable to continue my education because I cannot afford the cost of supplies, fees, transportation, and personal expenses. Receiving financial aid will allow me more time to study properly. Without it, I will be forced to take time away from my studies in order to work. My academics are my first priority now and I realize I need to devote all of my time to them in order to be successful in the future. I recently evaluated my plans to improve my academic. I have determined the following points to be the keys to my educational success. 1. I will balance the course choices better. 2. I will manage my time wisely on academics. 3. I will seek assistance with my coursework when I have difficulties. 4. I will maintain communication with my professors on a regular basis to ensure success in my courses 5. Complete classes C or better. I understand the expectation better now and I am doing well in my coursework this semester with currently all passing grades. I have made a huge improvement and I am determined to pass every class this semester. Although I have made great improvements, without financial aid I fear I will find myself struggling to succeed once again. I hope those of the financial aid committee who read this will give me a second chance to help me accomplish my goals and reach success for the rest of my time at college. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my financial circumstances. I look forward to hearing about your decision. Sincerely, Letter 2 To Financial Aid Committee: My name is. I had 2 courses left that I have to pass. I asked my professor to see if still possible, and they said it would be difficult to overcome a passing grade. While studying hard on the finals, I was believing myself that I can perform well on my final exam, but in the end I passed one of the two, and as a result I received a gpa below 2.0. If you dont think i can submit can you suggest some points then?
If I sent 500 ships full of medical supplies to the Palestinians...? Would the Israeli Prime Minister automatically think that I'm sending missiles and weapons to Hamas in the West Bank? Seems to me, that Netanyahu is utterly *convinced* that the world is hell bent on arming Hamas--whenever they attempt to send aid: Food, medicine, much needed supplies--things that are easier to procure than weapons; can be bought in bulk, and shipped without a problem. But the problem seems to be Israel and their paranoia of anyone even *sympathizing* with the besieged Palestinians. Even myself. I don't hate the people of Israel. I just dislike what the government has been doing to the Palestinians for the past 30 years or so. Case in point: One of the ships that was to sail to was the 1,200-ton ship Rachel Corrie was also carrying wheelchairs and other medical supplies, organizers said. It was named after a U.S. college student crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer while protesting house demolitions in Gaza. The ship was supposed to join the aid flotilla but was delayed by mechanical problems and is waiting off the Libyan coast. Netanyahu said the aim of the flotilla was to break the blockade, not to bring aid to Gaza. If the blockade ended, he warned, hundreds of ships would bring in thousands of missiles from Iran, to be aimed at Israel and beyond. So how does wheel chairs and medical supplies magically transform themselves into machine guns and RPGs anyways? And is Netanyahu correct in the assumption that ships from all makes is secretly planning to arm Hamas to the teeth--instead of bringing relief to the Palestinian people?

Need help on Financial Aid Appeal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? To Financial Aid Committee: My name is .My major is Engineering. 2009-2010 First year of college was very challenging to me yet I was still wasn't ready for the courses that I chose. My goal was to obtain an A.A Degree to transfer to a 4 year institute to obtain a B.A Degree. My educational goal was to be majoring in Engineering. In Fall 2009 I chose courses that were just too hard for me to start out with. I was overwhelmed with the classes I took. I started off well but things got complicated with many exams coming up. I studied for the exams but some parts I just didn’t understand but I reviewed it twice before moving on. When the exam comes I performed badly with answers I should’ve gotten but I forgot many of the materials I studied the day before the exam. I didn’t know much about the exam format in college and that makes it hard for me to study and the lack of knowledge about the subject got me worried a lot. I often miss review sections that I should have attend but I made other plans instead. I didn’t ask the professor for assistance or get tutored when I needed it but instead I chose to go study and figure things out myself. Therefore, I end up with a grade that is not passing. Due to these circumstances I have been rendered ineligible to receive financial aid. Without financial aid I will be unable to continue my education because I need the funds to pay for my supplies, fees, transportation, and personal expenses. If I receive funds from the government I will have enough funds to pay my expenses rather working hard for it on a job that would things more complicated for example, the number of hours I have for school would decrease because of the hours needed for work has to increase in order to receive good paying. Also, the lack of hours of studying would decrease because of the job you have, you would be exhausted. Academic is my first priority now. I started to evaluate my plans to improve my academic. I understand the expectation better now and I am looking forward to pass all my classes this spring. I am doing well in my coursework this semester with all passing grades. I made a huge improvement and my mindset is to pass the classes at the end of the semester. I am satisfied with what I done so far but to fulfill my education plan I request this committee to give me another chance to prove that I can still accomplish my goals and be successful on upcoming semesters. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my financial circumstances. I look forward to hearing about your decision. Sincerely, I need help on this appeal so i can get approved. I'm not a good writer and i don't know what to expect.THANKS

ISTANBUL – An aid ship trying to break the blockade of Gaza could reach Israel's 20-mile (32-kilometer) exclusion zone late Friday, an activist said, but Israel's prime minister has vowed the ship will not reach land. The dueling comments suggest a potential new clash over Israel's three-year-old blockade of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip — and come only four days after an Israeli commando raid on a larger aid flotilla left nine activists dead. Greta Berlin, a spokesman for the Free Gaza group, said in Nicosia the 1,200-ton Rachel Corrie is heading directly to Gaza and will not stop in any port on the way. It is trying to deliver hundreds of tons of aid, including wheelchairs, medical supplies and concrete. By Friday afternoon, the ship was 150 miles (240 kilometers) from the coast of Gaza in international waters, the group said on its website. Irish Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead McGuire and the former head of the U.N. Oil-for-Food program in Iraq, Denis Halliday, were among the 11 passengers on board. The Irish vessel is named after an American college student crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer while protesting house demolitions in Gaza. Israel will not allow the aid ship to reach Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Neanyahu told senior Cabinet ministers late Thursday. According to a participant in the meeting, he said Israel made several offers to direct the ship to an Israeli port, where the aid supplies would be unloaded, inspected and transferred to Gaza by land, but the offers were rejected. Netanyahu has hotly rejected calls to lift the blockade on Gaza, insisting that it prevents missile attacks on Israel. The Rachel Corrie's cargo of concrete is also a problem, because Israel considers that to have military uses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's a turkish ship. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Israel brags that they are able to take care of themselves. Yet they complain about 'rockets.' ?? hitting Israel for several years? Those 'rockets' can't be doing that much damage can they? Wouldn't Israel have let us know? Israel is as wrong as the Palestinians. End of story. I'm not promoting hatred. Just telling it as it is. We can make up our own minds. For goodness sakes, some believe the US to be terrorists, thus those we support become terrorists also. I don't have any desire to "promote hatred" Israel can do that on its own.
My question about the Cost of Attendance, financial aid? I'm an incoming freshman college student (Community College), I applied for a financial aid. This is my Cost of Attendance. Budget Detail Budget ComponentAmount Books & Supplies $1,620.00 Enrollment and/or Health Fees $734.00 Miscellaneous Personal Expense $2,862.00 Room & Board $4,806.00 Transportation $918.00 Total: $10,940.00 -- Does it mean that the total cost is what I have to pay? What if I don't really need the transportation? My location is not that far from the Community College. What about the personal expense, what does it mean? THANK YOU!

Financial aid question.? So I'm going to a Community college. The tuition and fees are dirt cheap. All together it came to 1,700$ and I easily paid it with a part time job. I'm living with my parents to save money on room and board. So I'm sure there is no other fees I have to pay, right? So when my financial aid came in I don't understand why the hell I'm getting $11,000. 2,700 of which is a Direct subsidized loan, 5,500 was a pell grant and 2,900 for a Tap award. I don't want the loan but I would like the pell grant (it's a grant, so I DON'T need to pay it back right?) to cover the cost of a laptop, school supplies and other misc fees I find throughout the year. So what should I do? They are waiting on my promissory note, so I guess I have the option to let the financial aid go away since I really don't need it. But the grant would be nice. How would I accept certain parts of the financial aid? I already tried ringing my finical aid office and got nowhere. The lady was too antsy and wasn't answering my question of why I'm getting so much for a community college. She just kinda feed me some BS and hung up... Worse comes to worse, I'll have to make an in person trip...
Can someone help me understand my financial aid for school? I think i got the idea, but i just want to make sure. So, they sent me a letter saying.. Tuition 7,417.00 Fees 0.00 Books/Supplies 1,090.00 Room/Board 8,331.00 Personal 2,672.00 Transportation 890.00 Total Cost of Attendance 20,400.00 Federal Student Contribution 0.00 Federal Parent Contribution 0.00 Financial Need 20,400.00 Then towards the end it says... Total Financial Aid 20,400.00 Unmet Cost of Attendance*** 0.00 Does that mean i dont have to pay anything? Also, do they actually GIVE me money to buy books and for the "personal", they just give me that money?
Massive Israeli Aid to Gaza - Is It For Real? And if it is why is Al-Jazeerah not reporting it? According to The Canada-Israel Committee did a fascinating analysis of the humanitarian aid to delivered to Gaza - and what it means in real terms for Gazans. Here's what the CIC concluded: Over one million tons of humanitarian supplies were delivered by Israel to the people of Gaza in the past 18 months – that’s equal to nearly one ton of aid for every man, woman and child in Gaza. In the first quarter of 2010 alone (January-March), Israel delivered 94,500 tons of supplies to Gaza. It’s very easy to miss what that actually means for the people of Gaza. The breakdown includes: * 40,000 tons of wheat – which is equal to 53 million loaves of bread; * 2,760 tons of rice – which equals 69 million servings; * 1,987 tons of clothes and footwear – the equivalent weight of 3.6 million pairs of jeans; and * 553 tons of milk powder and baby food – equivalent to over 3.1 million days of formula for an average six-month-old baby. This reflects a long-term effort on the part of Israel to deliver a massive and comprehensive supply of aid to Gaza’s civilians * During the Muslim holy days of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, Israel shipped some 11,000 head of cattle into Gaza – enough to provide 8.8 million meals of beef; * More than 3,000 tons of hypochlorite were delivered by Israel to Gaza for water purification purposes – that’s 60 billion gallons of purified water; and * Israel brought some 4,883 tons of medical equipment and medicine into Gaza – a weight equivalent to over 360,000 260-piece mobile trauma first aid kits. You can read more about this in the link below. http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/About+the+Ministry/Behind+the+Headlines/Israeli_humanitarian_lifeline_Gaza_25-May-2010.htm Here are my questions: 1. Is this a total fabrication? 2. If it is not a fabrication, why is the international press not acknowledging it? 3. Would it be in the interest of the Arab media, such as Al-Jazeerah, media in Muslim countries, and the anti-zionist leftist world press not to acknowledge it? Or do media sources such as this have a stellar track record in fair and honest reporting? 4. If there is Aid does this fly in the face of the charges of some people in this section, and the governments of countries like Turkey, that Israel is engaged in active genocide against the Palestinian people , and the people of Gaza? 5, Would it be fair to cut off all Aid to Gaza unless the government of Hamas agrees to release Gilad Shalit who was kidnapped in Israel proper four years ago? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilad_Shalit It is difficult to find independent verification of the aid. However, I do think it is out there or can be had. The international press, in my opinion, is more interested in promoting a very negative perception of Israel. It wold be wise for Israel to verify this aid, and then as it has been mentioned call an inquiry into why the international media is so biased against it.
What financial aid should I accept? I just received my financial aid package from the university of south florida it says that my cost of attendance will be 15,300. This is how it was calculated. Books and Supplies $1,500.00 Personal Expenses $2,500.00 Room and Board $4,500.00 Tuition and Fees $5,200.00 Transportation $1,600. I was offered the FDRL pell grant, USF need base grant,FDRL direct plus FED direct loan (sub/unsub) For one semester this whole total adds up to 7650.00 without the unsubsidized loan it adds up to 5525.00 I calculated everything I feel would be essential since we are able to ride the bus for free I will take advantage of that oppurtunity and I plan on paying books with my own money,... that came out to be 5431.00. so I will have $94.00 dollars left if I spend wisely. Should I not accept the unsubsidized loan. anfd for housing do they take out the money every semester or do they take it out all at once. I'm the first in my family to got to college so I'm just trying to be wise in my decisions, so I don't end up with a lot of debt in college .

Financial Aid Question- Cost of Attendance? If a university provides cost of attendance that only covers tuition, room & board, and books & supplies, is there a way to get more money to cover personal, misc.& travel expenses? Will this first-aid get to the people who have been flooded? Physics question? A pilot is attempting to deliver emergency good and first-aid supplies to an isolated northern community that has suffered severe flooding. The plane has a horizontal velocity of 1.40 X 10^2 km/h, as it flies at an altitude of 1.80 X 10^2 metres. The community is situated on a dry patch of land that is about 72m X 72m. a) If the supplies are released just as the plane flies directly overhead, will they touch down on land or in water? Justify your response with calculations that show exactly where the package will land. b) When should the supplies be released so that they touch down very close to the centre of the dry patch of land? Answer in terms of distance from the target, not time. Equations used: Vertical distance = 1/2(acceleration)(delta t^2) Horizontal distance = (horizontal velocity)(delta t) c^2 = a^2 + b^2 a) I know that the vertical displacement is given, but the horizontal displacement is not. In order to find the horizontal component displacement, I would need to find the change in time time. I take into account that there is no initial velocity, so I can use the vertical distance = 1/2(acceleration)(delta t^2) rather than Vertical distance =(initial velocity)(delta t)+1/2(acceleration)(delta t^2) equation. Since I'm given vertical distance = 180m, I can isolate and solve for time which is approximately 6.1 seconds. Now I can find the horizontal distance that is traveled: Horizontal distance = (horizontal velocity)(change in time) = (38.889 m/s after conversion)(6.1) = 235.6 m forward. Now that I have both the horizontal distance it travels and the vertical distance it falls, I can find the total distance the aid will travel before it falls. I use pythagorean theorem to find this, and yield a value of approximately 296.5 m as the resultant distance. Did I do this correctly? This woul
Can you proof read my Financial Aid appeal letter? Dear Financial Aid Committee: My name is _____ and I am writing this letter in hopes that the decision to suspend my financial aid would be reconsidered. Currently I have completed 61 units and have attempted 96.2- this excess in units and time have resulted in the suspension of my financial aid. During the beginning of my “college career” I was extremely lackadaisical with my studies and didn’t understand the importance of a college education and the impact it would have on my life. I enrolled at Fullerton College in the Fall of 2005 after my first college semester I decided that school just wasn’t for me- I withdrew from Fullerton College and decided to work full time. In the Fall of 2007 I enrolled at Santiago Canyon College as a full time student, while I was working full time. I thought I would be able to attend school full time, earn average grades and work full time- I was very wrong. After two semesters of repeatedly dropping classes and receiving poor grades, I cut back my hours at work from forty to twenty hours a week and began to focus more on my schooling. I didn’t have a clear plan as to what I wanted to major in, where I wanted to transfer to or even what classes to take, it wasn’t until Summer 2009 when I decided to take Counseling 116 “career and life planning” that is when my educational journey started. Professor Perry taught my summer CNSL 116 class- with her help, guidance and motivation I was able to create my educational plan for SCC, decide on a major and familiarize myself with Colleges/Universities and their transfer requirements. By the time I had completed the CNSL 116 class I had become a more motivated and dedicated student, I now knew what I needed to accomplish in order to fulfill my career aspirations. At 23 years old most young adults are graduated from college with their Bachelors degrees and are focusing on building their careers, I on the other hand, have only just begun my “College Career” and I am determined to be successful and invest in myself the best way I know how… by getting a great education. I am the eldest of four children- my siblings Katie (22) and Matthew (19) also attend college fulltime- while my youngest brother Johnathan, is only in 1st grade. My parents have always strived to give us all they could to ensure we have all the proper materials and books for school, but this last Summer my siblings and I applied for Financial Aid. In 2009 my mother was let go from her job where she had been for 16 years, early 2010 I was laid off from my employer due to budget cuts and to make matters worse my father was laid off shortly after. Being awarded financial aid was a HUGE blessing and allowed me to continue on my educational path, I was able to purchase the books and supplies I needed to be successful. When I was notified that my financial aid was being suspended because I had exceeded the “maximum time/units allowed” I was crushed. It saddens me to know that because of my foolish behavior in the years prior and dropping classes left and right I have compromised the very thing I’ve worked so diligently to repair… my education. I want to assure you that I am 100% determined to complete my final school year at SCC and apply to transfer this fall. I am in desperate need of your aid for the 2011 school year and I kindly ask you to reconsider my suspension for financial aid. If there are any questions you may have please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Can you help with supplies in Japan's disaster zone? I have just spent significant time in Minamisanriko-cho, one of the worst hit areas from the earthquake and tsunami on March 11 in Japan and the ongoing needs of the people are still significant. I work for OGA for Aid (https://www.facebook.com/OGAFORAID), which is providing much needed supplies to over 4,000 people in the area. Does this mean that I have to come up with $9,000 to pay for Berkeley??? ALSO, this is my award letter based on living "on campus" but after visiting the school I want to live on the "off campus" university apartments. From experience how much lower is my aid going to go down, and are they just going to give me a check to pay my monthly apartment bill? I was told that you get paid wayyyyy less if you say you live off campus! I'm just concerned about what I should do because my family doesn't have alot of money and I don't know if I should just live on campus so that I can save money (because it seems like I get more aid for living on campus). PLEASE HELP! THANKS :]

THANKS :]
Estimated Financial Aid Budget? So, I just recently signed up for Financial Aid and I was looking through my online Student account and I came across a link that tells me my estimated Financial Aid needs for School. According to the site, I am eligible to receive a total of $23,020 split in half for two terms. The form on my account also says the following: Catagory Description and Allowances: Books & Supplies: $750 Personal Expenses: $1,080.00 Housing and Food Allowance: $4,320.00 Transportation Allowance: $1,061.00 Tuition and Fees: $4,299.00 Term Total: $11,510.00 Now, with that being said, can anyone explain how this money is awarded? For example, Housing and Food Allowance, would I get the $4,320.00 in a lump sum so I could rent an Apartment or something along those lines? Would they allow me so much of that money in a certain time period? I don't necessarily understand how the process works. Yes, I know I should have talked to an Academic Counselor about this. However, there is a 3-4 week wait for a scheduled Appointment and I cant wait that long to ask these questions. Anyways, if anyone could explain to me how the whole Financial Aid process works in terms of how the money is awarded that would be great. The best answer gets 10 points.

Pell Grant/Financial Aid Question? I applied for my financial aid, and i got approved for the maximum amount of 5.550.00$ for the Pell Grant, and then of course approved for loans. (the financial aid office at the college im starting next month for my first year said i will not have to pay anything out of pocket.) I really dont want to have to take any loans out if i dont have to right away. My question is, It says for Fall semester im getting 2,775.00 and then the spring semester in 2012, is 2,775.00 what im not getting is, my friend gets the maximum pell grant as well, has not taking out any loans, etc, and she got 5,550.00 PER semester last year. her husband and my husband make the same amount of money give or take afew dollars, bc they work the same place, and we both have one child. did they maybe change it this yr? thats why im only getting 2,775.00?? Or am i reading it wrong? My tuition this semester for my 4 classes is 1,620.00$ after books, and supplies idk if ill have enough. any one know what the deal could be? should i talk to the financial aid office again? thanks in advance.

Is UC SHIP covered by federal financial aid? I am eligible for the blue and gold award. This is what my account tells me about the aid I have: Estimated Cost of Attendance Definitions of terms used on this page. Basic Living $13,923.00 Books and Supplies $1,589.00 Tuition $15,123.00 Transportation $564.00 Out of State $0.00 Summer $0.00 Other $0.00 Total Cost of Attendance $31,199.00 Contributions Definitions of terms used on this page. Student Self Help Expectation $3,500.00 Student Contribution $0.00 Parent Contribution $0.00 Additional Resources $0.00 Total Contributions $3,500.00 Financial Need $27,699.00 Estimated Financial Aid Definitions of terms used on this page. Cal Grant A Fees Entitle N-NH$12,192.00 Federal Direct Loan Sub-NH$3,500.00 Federal Pell Grant Program-NH$5,550.00 Federal Perkins Loan-NH$2,000.00 Entering UG Scholarship - NH$4,457.00 Total Estimated Financial Aid $27,699.00 In short, i am expected to pay only the $3,500 for "self help expectation" (I'm quite confused about that. will the school charge me for that amount of money, or is it just calculation of the amount of money i would need for my daily expenses?) Anyways, is UC SHIP covered by the amount of aid I have received, or would I have to pay for UC SHIP out of my own pocket?
Financial aid Question? I don't have a clue about financial aid. I got accepted into FGCU for the spring, and I'm trying to figure out the money issue for a dorm, tuition, etc. My school account says: The following information is based on your status as a UG OS Res 12 + Hrs Off/On Camp student receiving financial aid for the Fall/Spring. Budget Detail Budget ComponentAmount Books and Supplies $1,200.00 Personal Expenses $1,700.00 Room & Board $9,201.00 Tuition $22,822.00 Transportation $1,700.00 Total: $36,623.00 I received an email from FASFA saying: Eligibility Information Estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC)= 02417 The EFC is an index that schools use to determine your eligibility and is not the amount of money that you have to pay. Your school's financial aid office will use your EFC to determine the specific types and amounts of student aid you are eligible to receive. You may be eligible for the following: Pell Grant Estimate - $3,100.00 Direct Stafford Loan Estimate - $5,500.00 Does that mean that they're only going to give me 3,100 dollars? Thanks

On a scale of 1 to 10, how confident are you in your abilities to deal with a zombie apocalypse? Now of course, knowing how to use a riffle or, my personal favourite, a katana... are all useful skills. But it'll probably take more than that. We'll also need people who can ensure food and water supplies stay clean... knowledge in first aid is certainly a plus. Actually, the ability to stay awake when you are needed to stay awake is quite a useful survival skill in such situations. How ready are you?
Is financial aid a game-breaker? If you have below average grades (compared to the University you are applying to's grades) and you are an out of state student, does not needing financial aid help your chances a lot? Take the University of Wisconsin for example, the out of state tuition is $25,415 compared to the in state $9,665. That is a $16,000 difference. Add in room and board ($7,780), books and supplies ($1,140), personal expenses ($3,180), and transportation expenses ($770), that is a whopping $38,285 per year. It is obvious that the University would rather not give financial aid, duh. So if you don't need financial aid, are your chances greatly increased?

If you HAD too, which would you choose? Have a life supply of Kool-Aid, or 1 year supply of any soda you want? Have a panda bear as a pet, or a Lizard? Get an iPad, or a car? Have the biggest, fluffiest, most comfortable bed in the world, or a private bathroom? Shave your eyebrows, or grow a mustache? Have webbed fingers, or a uni brow? Live in Narnia, or Hogwarts? Have to watch all the Twilight movies over and over again for 2 years, or listen too Rebecca Black every day for 3 months? Be able to read minds, or heal? Crap your pants on a public bus, or fart while on an elevator, with an extremely attractive person?
How does college tuition/financial aid work? I want to go to NYU in the next few years, and I looked at the net price calculator and this is what it said: Estimated total price of attendance: $54,441 a. Estimated tuition and fees $39,265 b. Estimated room and board $13,226 c. Estimated books and supplies $950 d. Estimated other expenses (Personal expenses, transportation, etc.) $1,000 Estimated total grant aid: (Includes both merit and need based aid) $25,000 Estimated net price: (Price of attendance minus grant aid) $29,441 My dad only makes that much per year, it's only me and him and our house, and my mom has to legally pay for half, or just give my dad a check for half of the money or whatever. But there is still hardly any way I would be able to afford this as a yearly expense, so does this include student loans? Or can I borrow half of this in student loans? because then it wouldn't really be a problem to pay it. Well, I want to major in finance, and work for an investment banking firm in Manhattan, and starting salaries for various positions vary from about $60,000/year to $90,000/year plus bonuses. I think I could pay off an $80,000 loan with this.

How should I file my taxes? I'm a little worried that I've been doing my taxes wrong. Last year I had to pay $450 back to the government. Here's some details, I want to know what forms I need to fill out. I'm in California. 1. Full Time College Student receiving Financial Aid for books, supplies, etc. 2. Part time job, I made approx. $15000 3. I'm pretty sure I'm a dependent, but my parents do not claim me on their taxes. 4. I'm 22 years old. Thanks for all your help! I am NOT living in my parent's home. I have not for the past 4 years, if that makes a difference. I have been working Part time for 2 years, full time student for 4 years. I do have taxes withheld.. on my last paystub, the YTD federal tax amount was around $500.
