emergency first aid kits Knowledge Base
Are there laws requiring public places to have FIRST AID kits in case of emergencies? I'm curious about this. It only makes sense that every public place has some sort of FIRST AID KIT to treat, lets say a somewhat deep cut, or a puncture, etc., while rescue workers get there. I'm sure this would help in the spread of MRSA (methicillin resistan Staphylococcus aerous) which has just killed a young man in Virginia, making 21 schools close. Supposedly this bacteria will be killing more people than AIDS!!!

Adults only what to put into a emergency kit? My friend is always giving gag gifts on people bdays. She is between guys right now so I am making her a kinda first aid kit or emergency kit lol. I am putting a vibrator and condom in the box. What else could I put inside there?
using Vicodin (hydrocodone) for emergencies (first-aid kit)? I do a lot of adventuring and backcountry snowboarding. If I am doing anything serious I always keep a good first-aid kit with me. On one occasion the friend I was with fractured his elbow while we were snowboarding, and was in serious pain. It wasn't serious enough to where he needed to be airlifted or something like that but it was 2 or 3 hours before he could get to the hospital. All I had was OTC pain killers like ibuprofen and aspirin, and wish I had something stronger like hydrocodone to give to him. I could get hydrocodone from people I know and trust that have some left over from surgeries. Do you guys think it is wise to keep this in my first-aid kit and administer it in an emergency? I know it's illegal, but don't you think the benefits might outweigh the risks?
What should I put in my family's First Aid kit? What should I put in my family's First Aid kit? I think it would be safer and smart to have a disaster/First Aid kit in case of an emergency, but I can't really think of what to pack. Can you help me? Juan-WHAT should I put IN THE KIT?
What should be in an emergency kit on a boat? I've heard of quite a few people getting shipwrecked over the years. Should boats have an emergency kit similar to hikers, with those thermal blankets/tarplike things, water, food bars/other unperishable food, lighters/matches, etc. (maybe in a floating pouch)? Obviously there should be first aid kits and other items, but should boats carry a kit in case boaters are stranded, is it already suggested, and what else should go in it?
What are some household products that can be used for First Aid? Obviously, every person in ahome should be able to dial the Emergency Number with clear instructions and a First Aid kit in homes is always a good idea, but what natural household products can be used for First Aid? I know pepper can be used for cuts, aloe for burns (after it's been under running cold water for at least 10 minutes) but are there more? Hazel: All the sites I've read about burn care have said: " do NOT put butter or salt containing substances on burns."
What do you keep in your First Aid Kit for the barn? After a quick trip to the vet this morning (nothing serious), I got to thinking. What does everyone keep onhand for minor First Aid in the barn? I keep Furizone, Cut n Heal, peroxide, vet wrap, iodine, etc. Not just something you need a prescription for, but just good items to keep on hand for the minor everyday bump, scatches, and scrapes that horses seem to get. Or items that can help in an emergency until you can get to the vet. A lot of new horse owners may not have these (or even know that you can use a lot of household items for horse First Aid) and sharing this information could save someone a lot of stress.
Do you have a Pet First Aid Kit? Are you prepared for a pet emergency? You can buy a kit or make your own. Even some minimal supplies can save your pet till it can get to the vet ! This is not an ad, I don't sell things, just suggesting a good idea. ebay has some for sale or you can google pet first aid kit or dog first aid kit and find several. I would probably buy one and add to it. My friend's kit helped us stabilize my dog's 2 broken front legs till we got to the emergency vet. The vet was impressed we'd done such a good job setting the legs for him.
What should be in a good first aid kit for home or car? I had to make a basic one for Emergency Procedures class. It has: Bandaids Roller Bandages Gauze pads CPR Mask Bactine Gloves Asprine Triple Antibiotic Ointment Single Use Thermometers Bandage Tape Hydrocortizone Ointment Scissors Space Blanket Instant Cold Compress Flashlight What else should be in there? What would you include if it was yours?

first aid kit, how much should i spend on one? i'm a nurse and so i want to have a first aid kit in my car for emergencies, i would hate to be in a situation where i knew how to help someone and didn't have the right equipment or dressings or whatever. i quickly went through an internet store and picked out $500 (Australian dollars) worth of stuff - and that was holding back! $500 bought some awesome stuff, this was shaping up to be a sweet first aid kit. think mobile emergency department, or at least pretty close.... this wasn't a first aid kit (pre-made), those come with three gloves, two pieces of gauze and an old bandaid - waste of time usually. this $500 bought all the stuff i would put in it and would make a proper/useful kit. i'm talking burnaid+burns dressings, good scissors, face mask for resus, splinter removers, instant cold packs, combine, dressing packs, jelonet, opsite, hypafix, triangle bandages, analgesia, antihistamines and antacids. i wasn't being ripped off
First aid kit liability? If there is a first aid kit in a state vehicle, is the driver responsible for being trained in how to use it, and do they have to stop and give aid during an emergency?

Where can I get 72 hour kits for the office? I have been asked to create an emergency preparedness plan for my office and that includes getting first aid kits and 72 hour kits and such. Minimum Wilderness first aid kit? What would you consider the bare essentials for a first aid kit to be taken on an overnight hike? Weight is a consideration, but I also want a reasonable amount of first aid gear to help my self or my buddy in an emergency. I know knowledge is more important than gear, and I have had first aid and CPR training lately.
How prepared are you to take care for yourself and your family in case of a state of emergency? Do you at least 14 days worth of provisions, blankets, towels, first aid kits, batteries, flashlights, candles, natural gas detectors, enough clean water for your whole family, plus water purification tablets, a all purpose weather radio, toiletries, does your family have a safe place to go incase your family is apart when the state of emergency is declaired, do you think your ready for anything? Actually i'm Canadian, but i feel that everyone should be ready for the unexpected, like when we had the summer of hell up here in Canada, when the wildfires raged out of control and we had to get help from our friends in America, when they loaned us some of there water bombers. Here is a link to the RedCross website that gives you a list of items to put in a home emergency kit. http://www.redcross.org/services/disaster/0,1082,0_3_,00.html
how can I inform the audience on the importance of caring a first aid kit in their bag pack? I am doing an informative speech for 6 mns on the importance of having a first aid kit in one's bagpack. It is hard for me to find the datas so far. I was going to discuss about 1) what is the first aid kit? and I would describe the contents of the first aid kit by having one box with me. 2) I would discuss why do we use a first aid kit? I would use multiple example of emergency approaches. and then I am stuck. I need help on finding reliable sites to find the infos. please someone help me.
Recommendations for an extensive First Aid kit? My first Aid skills are far above average as I spent years as a Combat soldier and then 29 years as a Subway Emergency Mechanic. Sometimes had to do First Aid while Paramedics were throwing up. I am looking for recommendations for items to stock a very good First Aid kit which I would custom chose from for various outings. Pharmacists Medical Doctors Paramedics Firemen Soldiers Nurses and anyone else who deals with emergencies on a regular basis are especially requested to make suggestions. As is anyone with special experience in this area. Knowing what to do and having the will to do it has helped me save a number of lives. I just hate taking credit. I would appreciate any additional advice. I realize I forgot people like ski patrol and rescue workers smoke jumpers etc Poison center workers would be especially appreciated include advise on use if feel it should be included. Thank you in advance. I'm in Canada not the US. What I don't know how to do I do not attempt to do. Paramedics were allowed under live subway trains and at 11,000 ft there are no ambulances. I have been able to get choppers there while military but still had to get the vic to the chopper. I would be willing to serve time before allowing someone to die if I could have saved him. That is a small part of what being a soldier is all about. You can take a man out of the army but not the army out of the man. Sorry I meant to say Paramedics were not allowed under live trains Jane Flatters me in ways I don't deserve. I was just in the right place at the wrong time a little to often.

Putting together an Emergency SHTF Kit... sterilizer? I am making an Emergency Preparedness Kit. I have all the basics in there, some non-perishable foods, first aid kit, rain poncho, TP, pocket knives etc etc... What sterilizer should I add to it? Rubbing Alcohol? Hydro-Peroxide? Iodine? Rum or Whiskey? (Seriously, is rum or whiskey good for sterilization, as it would also be good for other things in case of SHTF)
Do you have a first aid kit for your dog?? Even if you have an emergency vet, do you know what to do immediately if you're somewhere with your dog and he/she gets injured or sick? I am out lots of times camping or hiking where it would take me over an hour to get back to any kind of civilization and have to be prepared even then. Do you have any kind of system to help your pet immediately if they do get hurt? Oh no.... I have one for myself.. This is what first helped me http://www.petplace.com/dogs/first-aid-kit-for-dogs/page1.aspx Oh great Hello Sunshine. Thanks for the link. What do you keep in your horse first aid kit? There are certain things that I always have loads of, not just in case of an emergency with my horses but also in case anyone needs to borrow something in the event of colic, choke etc. I always have IV Banamine, Dex, Rompun and Ace, paste bute, Tri Hist, leg sweat (dmso, furasin & dex), non steroid eye ointment, a bottle of SMZ's, betadine and of course various dressings. What do you keep in yours? Mmm Jello - is that in case you get a wobbler?
Is this a good demonstration speech topic? I have chosen to teach everyone how to put together a car emergency kit. Like have a first aid kit, flashlight, all fluids, blanket, bottles of water, etc. Is this a good speech idea? Would it be too boring? I do not want people to be bored to death while i am up there for 5-7 minutes. And could i make this last 5-7 minutes? thank you for answering my question! But how about how to make a fruit salad? Would that be good? As long as i can make it last 5 minutes. lol
Car Survival Kit; What to Include? I was wondering what to include in a survival kit to keep in my car. I know a first aid kit is a definate, space blanket, and food. But what else should I include? I've seen ones on eBay that are complete and cover the basics to up to a week, but I don't want to pay $80 + for a emergency kit for my car if I can make one myself cheaper. So what should I include? Please make a complete list, and if you know the average price please include that as well. And if you know of a website that has information on what to have in one then post it as well. Thanks.

What should be in an "Emergency Labor Kit"? my wife is expecting a baby soon. Planning delivery in the hospital, but I was thinking it would be good to keep some "first aid" supplies in the car/home just in case there was a sudden surprise labor. Can anyone think of some good things to have on hand in the car in case I needed to help deliver a baby until help arrived? Here are some of the things I thought of: -Clean Towels -Bottled Water -Blankets -Pillows -Knife or scissors Any other ideas out there?

Emergency planning? Just a quick topic. I'm interested to see what types of emergency planning you pet owners have. I live in an area where I could be evacuated for hurricanes. I have ten pets. I have an entire system worked out. LOL! Things I'm interested in hearing about.... -First aid kits? -Evacuations? (hurricanes, floods, fires...) -Kids! What happens if your kids are home alone with your pet and the pet gets sick, or injured? -How prepared are you? And if you aren't will this inspire a change? Any other emergency ideas are welcome!

Am I allowed to have this with me-- if not, what can I do? Do airlplanes first aid kits have this?

Dog medical emergencies? Have you ever taken a dog first-aid class? Do you have a dog emergency first-aid kit? Note: I'm not talking about "do-it-yourself" in place of vet care, but knowing how to react and having the tools to get the dog to the vet in a slightly safer condition. (Bandaging bleeding, knowing the heimlich maneuver, etc.)
Canine First Aid Question? A lot of the questions on here relate to dogs eating things that could be potentially fatal. Clearly there is no substitute for emergency veterinary care but I was wondering what people’s views are on the correct way to administer first aid prior to seeing an emergency vet. Is it correct to say that you should make the dog vomit and if so what is the best way to do it? Also, how many owners have a basic dog first aid kit at home or in the car and if you do what does it contain?
What should I have in my mini emergency/ first aid/ hygienic kit? Assembling a First Aid Kit? I am assembling a first-aid kit for my bag (for use at school in emergencies only), and I would like to know what people think as the 5 most important things they would include in a first-aid (or general aid) kit. By general aid I mean perhaps other things like painkillers and various other medicines. However the items cannot be big since I only have a small bag. Any suggestions, and prices?
What should I put in my trunk for regular use? I already have an emergency kit with first aid and car repair supplies, but does anyone have ideas for what to put in a more social box, stuff that's good to have on you all the time... ex: paper, pens, cell charger, emergency money. Ideas?

Baby stuff to add to my emergency car kit - please read? I keep an "emergency kit" in my car - it has stuff for the car itself (spare tire, jack, jumper cables, flares, etc), a first aid kit, a couple of blankets, a toolkit, and some bottled water and granola bars. I'd like to organize a first aid class for pet owners, how could I go about doing this? I was thinking about asking Pet Smart if they would down for allowing a class once a month with the class cost going for our local Animal Aid or Humane Society. Any suggestions on how to organize this? Who could I ask to lead the class perhaps a local vet? And about how long should the class be? I was thinking 2 hrs. w/ a 15 min. break for snacks. I would suggest people leave their pets home and someone (like from Animal Aid) bring a very calm cat and/or dog for demonstrations along w/ using maybe stuffed dogs. People don't realize that CPR is different for dogs/cats then it is for people. Also, what to do in an emergency (pet gets hit by car, pet gets attacked by another animal) would be discussed and maybe little pet first-aid kits and pamphlets could be distributed. The class cost could cover the kits. I'd like to hear from people who have attended maybe something like this or anyone who just loves pets and has some good suggestions! ANY FEEDBACK APPRECIATED! I also think a certificate of class participation could be given out and those stickers for the fire department that let them know how many animals and what kinds are in your home. GOOD IDEA???????????? Could save potentially many pets lives I think!
cute idea? emergency love kit? i have an idea to make my boyfriend an "emergency love kit" just like a first aid kit. so either when he's away from me, he can use some of the stuff. or when he's with me, he can use it. what do you think i should include? it has to be cute, and it can be somewhat sexual (like condoms ;) ) he's a shy, respectful kind of kid, so nothing too promiscuous haha. any ideas? 10 points to the cutest!
What kind of First Aid Kit would NOT be eligible for a Flexible Spending Account? I would like to purchase a nice Emergency First Aid Kit with My Flexible Spending Account (FSA). What wouldn't qualify? Would this one that I would like to get be eligible? http://www.abfirstaidstore.com/product/fogg/first-aid-kitslarge-kits/1500-first-aid-kit I am frequently outdoors pursuing adventure sports like Rock Climbing, Kayaking & Backpacking and am an active Triathlete as well. This kit would be for the house and back of my SUV and would be a comfort to know it's there. I've also taken Wilderness First Responder Courses and was a Combat Lifesaver in the military so I know a few medical tricks. Would this kind of kit be eligible? Thanks in advance.

Question about buy ipecacuana? I need to sort out my emergency first aid kit, and recently I was talking to a friend of mine who says she has something called buy ipecacuana or ipecac (sorry, I am unaware of the spelling) which she has in Emergency just in case one of her son's swallows something like poison or they are at desperate measures and need to get something out of his system. I thought it might be a good idea if I have some around the house just in case, but I am not one hundred percent sure about where to buy it or what to ask for. My friend says she thinks she brought some over a counter at a pharmacy but I have heard many people saying you need a prescription? Any help appreciated, thank you.
What's the most effective way to advertise my services? I have decided to become a private lifeguard and will be selling my services for backyard pool parties, club pool parties, etc. I have 6 years experience and have all the Red Cross certifications. I am even thinking about investing in some equipment like a lifeguard tube, emergency first aid kit, etc. But before I start investing in this I want to make sure it is worth it. I posted a Craigslist ad and scored $100 for a backyard pool party within a few days. What else can I do to spread the word about my services? Would printing ads and posting them in suburban neighborhoods be effective?

Brides, what else should I put in my emergency kits? I'm an up and coming Wedding Planner...fully certified but this is my first wedding! It's on June 12 and I feel like I'm getting married all over again! I want everything to go PERFECTLY and I KNOW it'll be an amazing ceremony. So, what other things should I put in my emergency kit? So far I have: a first aid kit with band aids, pain relievers, Neosporin etc, then I have a box that I filled with: Tissues, tampons, red bull (at groom's request) Axe body spray, sewing kit, safety pins, lint roller, lotion, tooth brushes and tooth paste (groom's a smoker so bride requested that) mints, nail file and clippers, hand sanitizer, waters that I'll have in a cooler in my car, Tide pen, shine control papers (I recommend these if you're getting married the the summer- they take the shine w/o taking the makeup...inexpensive too!). I think I have my bases covered but... what else? Knew thought about that super glue! That's an awesome idea! Thanks! Oh yea, I do have hair pins/ bobby pins, thanks for the reminder. I even have imodium for diarrhea and gas relief....lol it came in the first aid kit.
kids karate class first aid? I am teaching for the first time by myself tomorrow. My main fear is that I won't know what to do if someone is injured. Should I bring a first aid kit (I have assorted sized bandaids, neosporin, cold compress, and pain pill is that enough?). How much first aid should I administer? I mean say a kid gets a bloody nose, am I expected to stop class and deal with that, or should I have the kids parents paged and let them deal with that. We are at a healthclub and none of the parents watch the class they go elsewhere or go upstairs and exercise. I am dealling with kids 6-10. Then if there is a REAL emergency should I call 911 first or the kids parents, and if so when should I call 911. I have taken a first aid unit 2 years ago. I know cpr but have not been certified-- could I get in trouble for preforming it if need be? I know kind of wrong category but figure most instructors have probably dealt with this before. Osu! giving someone advil is illegal??

Why don't people do more to prepare for emergencies? Even me. I know darn well I should have enough supplies for 2 weeks for my family, but I don't. About the only thing I've done is prepare a pretty good emergency kit for my car including tools, survival stuff, food, and a really good first aid kit.
What can you tell me about this old first-aid kit? I moved to West Virginia several years ago, and my family moved into this old overgrown worn-out house (my mom enjoys "fixer-uppers") So the previous owner told us the story of this house, that it had been built in the early 1900s (if memory serves, the 30s or 40s), and had been a farm where this woman in her 90s had lived. There was a lot of renovation to do, so as we toured the basement, I looked up to the ceiling and saw this box sitting on to pipes. I got it down and read it. It says on the front "TRADE MARK 'TABLOID' BRAND" and underneath that still on the front it says "FIRST-AID (PAC-KIT). In between it has a sort of 'T' with what looks like a horse inside. On the bottom it says " BURROUGHS WELLCOME & Co. (U.S.A.) INC. NEW YORK,N.Y." and also a U.S. patent number. There is nothing inside so I assume it was all used. Inside there is a ripped paper with the half left saying " TABLOID etc. etc. No. 748 SNAKE-BITE KIT (SUCTION TYPE). It looks to me like it might have been an advertisement for another product of theirs. underneath that it has another paper (both of these are attached to the box by the way) that tells of the contents and what to do in an emergency. The box is very red, full metal and uses metal sort of buckles to close. I know this has dragged on for a long time, but I have found several different kinds of similar items on the internet, but nothing the same, and I wanted you to know what I was looking at clearly. If you can tell me what it is or what it's worth. I would much appreciate it. Thanks.
where to buy a first aid kit (in a store, not online)? i just want a basic first aid kit to store in my car for emergencies. i don't want to spend a ton of money. what can i expect to spend on a kit like that? or would it be cheaper to put it together myself (buy some bandages, etc and put it in a box)? i'm not opposed to buying it online, but i'd kinda rather get it from a store, not pay shipping and a see in person if it's crappy before buying it.
what are some important things to keep in a bike emergency kit? my scout troop is going to host the areas camp out and i am the roaming photographer i decided it would be best to take my bike instead of walking and i need to get my bike ready for this kind of thing its in Florida so not too many hills but the camp does have its rough spots, holes and rocks so i have my mountain tread on my bike already is there anything else i should do to prepare myself and the bike and what should i put in my emergency kit other then a screw driver, various tools, and first aid kit and one of those mini air cans
What's in your first aid kit? I was just wondering because I want to expand my first aid kit for Tango, but I want to get the best stuff. Mine isn't very good right now. Just wraps, betadine, Corona, Bag Balm, Bute (paste and pill), and that's all I can think of... What do you have in your first aid kit? What works the best for cleaning out wounds? What works the best for helping cuts/wounds heal? Sorry if this is a really stupid question. I rather know where if Tango gets hurt and I call the emergency vet that I don't have to go buy the stuff, I can have it on hand... It would suck if the stores where out of stock or something.
What would be the makings of a good first aid kit for my home? I have only a few bandaids and some antibiotic ointment and I want to create a good emergency first aid kit. There are so many products out there and so many different types of ointments and treatments, which ones are the best for cuts, burns, stings, etc... Thank you for taking your time to answer, I know I could look it up on the web, but I wanted ask here first. Ok, MeMD, you win! Thank you for taking the time to list these items, I appreciate your caring tone in your answer as well :) You deserve 10 stars!

Any laws on carrying a scalpel/s in the UK? (First aider)? Speaking on medical terms are first aiders allowed to carry scalpel/s in there first aid kits because I will soon be taking a first aid course in: basic and emergency first aid an emergency life support. Will I be able to carry a medical instrument as such as the scalpel in the UK? @snark, the scalpel will be an additional item to cut open THICK clothing to get to the wound or to be used to cut off tissue that may have been infected. It will be used as a general First aid item and I somewhat go hiking now and then. Add: Would there be any reason for a first aider to carry a scalpel in their FAK ?
What would be the best in car First aid kit for a Jr. Fireman? Im trying to find a First aid kid for a jr fireman. I am a boy scout with first aid and emergency preparedness merit badge so i know what to do with just about everything first aid wise, im just looking for a good all around kit for just about anything. It will probably be used most for things like car accidents, but it has to be good for just about anything. If it would be a kit that i would have to add some stuff to that would be fine too. Any suggestions would be nice. (try and keep under $150) i have been looking at this one http://www.galls.com/style.html?assort=general_catalog&style=TK079 any suggestions are appreciated, thanks I understand to leave it to the professionals but if im the first person there i will be helping the person especially because i know what to do. And a car accident is just the first thing that came to mind, im just looking for suggestions for an all around first aid kit for just about anything. Im looking for suggestions, not advice on what to do because i know that When paramedics arrive to get out of the way and let them do their job, but being a Jr fireman i usually am the first person there. I know to get out of the way
What equipment do I need to take on a night hike? I am taking part in a 20mile / 32km night hike in June. First time I have hiked at night. Pocket Sized First Aid Booklet Suggestions? After successfully surviving Hurricane Irene, I see there are a few things I need to know in case of emergency: 1. What is the name of a good First Aid Booklet that I can place in my emergency bag and/or carry around with me? 2. What is Neosporin used for? 3. What are the names of some simple antiseptics to keep in a make shift First Aid kit? 4. Simple wound care-what should be used? I am thinking Normal Saline, or soap and water, use some Betadine and then cover and dress with sterile 4x4. 5. I am reading that some first aid kits have heartburn meds. Why is that? Thanks!
Good clothes for bushfire emergency kit- ideas please? I need to pack a bushfore emergency kit for a school geography assignment. I have water, blankets, first aid kit, torch, etc; but am unsure of what kind of clothes to include. They need to be non-flammable. Any ideas? (I don't think i've got any woollen clothes).

Mini First Aid Kit - Best Answer Top Points? Okay, so I have been getting a little prepared in terms of emergency equipment. I have put together my own mini first aid kit. This is what it contains: - 1 Large Plaster - 1 Medium Plaster - 1 Small Plaster - 1 Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipe - Paracetamol - Micro porous Tape - 1 Stretch Bandage - 1 Safety Pin This is just a Mini First Aid Kit to sit in the bottom of my wardrobe in case I need anything. All stock will be replenished as it is used. Thanks so much! Oh Sorry! Haha. I My question is: Does this sound okay for a basic first aid kit?
What to put in first aid kit? So I'm putting together an emergency first aid kit for my horses and i've been looking all over the internet and i've found some pretty good ones but the problem that i keep running across is that these lists and suggestions have billions of different things in them, and each list says something different. So i was just wondering what you guys have in your kits. What you guys have had to use and have found useful to have on hand. This would help me tons! Oh and could you also put what you use each item for? because a lot of those lists just tell you what you'll need but not what it's for : / thanks
Do you own a first aid kit, and/or a bug out bag? I want to know how many people are prepared for an emergency. So do you own a first aid kit? And do you own a bug out bag?
